This hotel is perfect for a weekend away. We stayed in January and had a lovely time. We stayed in room 2 (Cedar) and were totally amazed by the room. The bed is huge, much wider than it is long! the room is very nicely decorated, with lovely views of both the front and back of the room. The small living room with TV is nice, and a great place to relax in. The bathroom is also nice and high quality.

An even better place to relax, however, is in the attached spa. You have to walk through the dining room, which is a little odd if you choose to wear your robe from your room (which apparently a lot of people do, but we decided just to change in the changing room), but nice not to have to go outside. The spa has a sauna, steam room and sonarium (a cooler sauna) as well as an experience shower (a fun experience, something I haven't seen before) and gym. The pool is also full of surprises and is a nice pool, but probably more for relaxing in rather than doing lengths. The outdoor hot tub had to be our favourite thing though. With the cold january air the water is amazingly warm, and the outdoor fireplace just makes the atmosphere perfect. On our second night we enjoyed a G&T in the outdoor hot tub (in a plastic glass, but understandably so!) which was also very nice.

On our first night we had planned on walking into the local area and finding a pub or restaurant to eat in, however there really isn't much nearby, and so it would need a drive into cheltenham. Once we hadn't found anything we decided to go back and order room service. The food from the bar/room service is delicious and very well presented, but the poshness means quite small portions (9 chips stacked jenga style with the fish and chips). Enough for a late night, but I would be disappointed slightly if it were earlier and I was hungrier, maybe a slightly taller tower would be better! My girlfriends sausages and mash was very good however and of a decent size!

Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely delicious. It is a fine dining sort of menu, and the food is perfectly presented, portioned and cooked. The wine list is also very good, with a lot of pricier wines but also cheaper wines which also taste great. I would strongly recommend staying for dinner here at least on one night.

Breakfast was a slight disappointment compared to the standard of the other food. The bacon and sausages weren't of the quality that I would have expected. The buffet selection was good however and some of the other cooked options were better.

Afternoon tea in the hotel is also a good experience, with a very large selection of sandwiches and sweet things with a wide selection of teas, a few which I'd never heard of.

The hotel isn't cheap, but I would say it is good value, and the friendly and accommodating staff made it a wonderful weekend, and one which I would love to repeat again. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: The suites are all lovely. Cedar (2) is great and has views of both sides of the hotel with a huge b...

Beautiful location, tranquil atomosphere and peaceful spa facilities. Enjoyed a three course lunch which was wonderful. I would like to make this an annual event as nothing was too much trouble for the staff... outstanding service

Had a most wonderful three course lunch, couldn't fault the look and taste of the food. Not cheap but this is good fine dining. Beautiful restaurant with a lovely view over the countryside. This is a beautiful location and gorgeous rooms. Will definitely return and try an evening meal.

The setting is idyllic, the atmosphere tranquil, the building historic and lovingly restored - a great choice of hotel for a relaxing weekend. We managed to get a great deal on the room and were then given a free upgrade to a feature room, due to the hotel staff making a mistake with our reservation.

If you want modern, functional, all built-in, then stay somewhere else. If you want charm and a sense of history, then do stay here. It is a pleasure to spend a weekend in a hotel which gives a 'turn down service', all too rare nowadays.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant on both Friday and Saturday evenings was excellent. Breakfast on Saturday morning was nothing short of disastrous; however, it would be inappropriate to go into detail, since the restaurant and hotel staff went out of their way to remedy the situation and from that point onwards made a supreme effort to ensure that our stay was nothing short of perfection. Nicky (head housekeeper) and Nick (sous chef) deserve particular thanks for their concern and for giving us 5* treatment. Afternoon tea on Saturday was delicious - so plentiful that we could not manage all of it! Breakfast on Sunday was faultless, a real pleasure.

The sommelier is not only knowledgeable but also friendly and engaging. He has a superb selection of wines and cognacs and we felt that he enjoyed finding the right wine and digestif to suit the tastes of the guests, rather than simply following a script. We found the bar and restaurant staff to be helpful and courteous.

The adjacent spa is excellent. Massages, sauna, steam room, pool - all you could wish for. An added bonus is that it is accessible via a corridor from the hotel, without needing to walk outside. Lovely fluffy bathrobes and slippers in the hotel rooms.

What changes or additions would I like to see?
1. Whilst reception/reservations staff are very helpful, there are some issues with the booking system that need to be improved.
2. Lovely tea/coffee chest with home baked cookies in the room - but let down by 'plastic' milk - easily fixed by adding a mini bar to include fresh milk
3. Bathroom needs better lighting to vanity mirror; we experienced issues with the thermostat to the shower; there is a separate bath but no bath foam; toiletries were not replenished automatically, which was disappointing.
4. Better signing from the main road - we found ourselves on an adjacent farm track when trying to locate the entrance to the hotel.

A annual escape with friends this year took us to the Greenway - what a fabulous find. We stayed in the Yew and Poplar rooms which were perfect with tasteful decor and lovely views of the garden.
The staff were helpful even though there was a conference and quite a few couples booking in at the same time, although there is no lift and no one to carry your bags.
Pre dinner drinks did take a little time but as soon as the receptionist saw we were waiting he came and very quickly served our order, after which the barman came on duty he advised us effectively on which wine to have with the meals we had ordered.
The food was superb, dinner began with canapés, followed by a taster soup, carrot and ginger, and then the three courses order. I meant to ask the name of the chef, as I have tasted many meals prepared by Michelin chefs, and indeed the meal was approaching that standard. The waiting staff were efficient and extremely pleasant and ensured our order was completed as per our requirements, with the minimum of fuss.
The spa was refreshing, treatments were good; the hot tub and hydrotherapy pool were very popular with us all, although caution when getting into the hot tub as the 'decking steps' were slippery.
All aspects of our stay were first class and I will ensure we visit again when another Secret Escapes deal arises.
Two areas to develop, 1. you cannot use the spa until you have checked in - 3 p.m. and unless you have a treatment on your checkout day you cannot use the spa after 11a.m.
2. The beds should have been presented as twins as requested and not as a super king. Just small areas which can very easily be addressed.

Just spent a wonderful day here with 5 girl friends for a birthday treat....lovely outside hot tub, pool, steam room and sauna. Tasty lunch and we all had treatments facials, massages and mud wraps which we lavished. We are all therapists ourselves so it was nice for us to be pampered for a change and the therapists here we can highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing day - we will be back!

Arrived for check-in just as the Wedding Exhibition was ending. Asked about afternoon tea and were informed this was not available due to the exhibition. No big deal as were were still served tea and biscuits (which were very nice) in the lounge. However, it would have been better had we been informed that the afternoon tea option would not be available at the time of making the reservation.

Our room in the Coach House was large, spacious with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom had bath and shower and again very spacious. The lounge and bar are nicely furnished and the hotel has very much a country house hotel feel. The spa is quite compact - small swimming pool and gym, treatment rooms, outside hot tub on a terrace area. Was rather suprised though that, although an open area, guests were smoking here. There is also a funky nail bar. The brasserie, just off the spa reception, had a very strong smell of chlorine so I am pleased we did not eat there. The gardens to the rear, with a small pond, are well tended with seating. Car parking is available infront of the hotel as well as by the spa.

Staff were very friendly in particular the Restaurant Manager and the staff in the restaurant. The area however which really needs addressing with immediate urgency is the speed (or rather lack of it) in the kitchen. We were taken through to our table at 19.40 (having had pre dinner drinks and canapes in the lounge); starters were served at 20.30 and the main courses at 21.20. Other diners who arrived after us were served first and finished way before our mains arrived. Fortunately the wait for dessert was acceptable and we left the table at 22.10. The 50 minute wait for the starters and then another 50 minutes for the main was excessive and did impact on our enjoyment of the evening.

I can only assume the kitchen is either woefully understaffed or very disorganised as the restaurant was certainly not full. Given the fact that there are three menus plus the brasserie maybe the kitchen is too stretched in the amount of different dishes to prepare - which basically boils down to being understaffed / disorganised. I do not usually read other reviews but glancing though I am clearly not the first reviewer to raise the issue.

We regularly dine and stay at Brockencote Hall (now part of the Eden Collection). This length of wait for dinner has never and would never ever occur at Brockencote. The Greenway could certainly learn so much from its sister hotel regarding kitchen time management and timely execution of dishes.
