Had a three night break here. Lovely aspect, right by the river, spacious and very comfortable room, breakfast plentiful and hot, as it was freshly cooked to order. Ate here each evening and the choices were numerous on all but the curry night, when there were only two alternatives to curry, but even these were more than adequate. The landlord keeps a good cellar too as the beer was more than acceptable as well as there being several hand-pumped choices. Would definitely return at a later date.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 2 which was at the top of the stairs and this area was quite dark. Otherwise a lov...

Stayed 13/14 June on a 2 night deal,
Refurbished room, very nicely done, 3 beds in it but spacious. En suite nicely done.Plenty of choice on the hospitality tray.Very clean, friendly, pleasant & helpful staff. It was Indian buffet night the 1st night - DELICIOUS, without doubt the best indian food we've had in a pub. 2nd night i had the steak & Ale pie.......packed full of steak, a gut buster - although personal choice would have been all the better with shortcrust pastry not puffed. I did see someone order fish and chips & i've never seen fish that big , i have a good appetite but doubt whether i could've polished that off! Extremely good location for scenery, with the added bonus of the steam trains just at the rear of the hotel - made it perfect for me, couldn't ask for more.

Room Tip: Had room 5,was quite a struggle for my husband up on 2nd floor, as stairs a little uneven, took him a...

Just got back after a two night stay and what a stunning place! ! The food was fantastic with lots of choice. We were the first people to use room 2 since it was renovated and it was impeccable.
The fishing was brilliant right in front of the pub with secure locker rooms provided for tackle and bait. The best feature of our stay though was the staff. They were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us.
I'm already planning my next visit!!

Arrived on a very busy fathers day for a two night wowcher break with my wife. The location is really nice and the place has a very good feel about it. Great views of the river Severn and the Steam railway station is just behind and is a great trip out. Room No 2 was spacious but badly laid out. The wardrobe was so close to the bed that the doors could not be opened properly to get clothes in and out. There was a 3rd bed in this room which i guess has compromised the layout. There was no T.V. which i was not bothered about but thought a tv was the norm. The bathroom was again a victim of poor design. plenty of room and nicely decorated, but, trying to shave and wash was almost impossible due to the badly located soap dispenser and glass shelf above the sink. This meant you could not get your face to the sink without fear of breaking the glass shelf on your head. On the first night we went for dinner and my wife had the biggest fish n chips i have ever seen, quite impressive and well cooked. i however opted for the rib eye steak in jack daniels bbq sauce. i asked for it medium and it came overcooked and dry. the steak was also very thin, not what i expected a rib eye to be. After dinner we went to soak up the views on the decked area. All was going fine until about 10pm when the kitchen staff finished their shift and decided to sit on the table next to us and have a laddish conversation with the F word used regularly. This was complete ignorance in the presence of my wife and I. The second night we had Chilli and Lamb balti, both very average. on retiring to bed we were woken at 5:30am by the fire alarm. Now these things happen and although an inconvenience safety is of course paramount. We both quickly dressed and went outside only to find nobody else had bothered to get up (The hotel was full!!) the alarm then stopped as we walked outside and the a lady (the landlady?) apologised saying somebody must be smoking in their room. like i say these things happen, so fair enough. Back to bed to be woken at 7:15am by builders refurbishing a room, hammering at 7:15am. is this acceptable? still not to worry too much because at 7:30am the fire alarm went off again. This time we ignored it like the rest of the guests. We went for breakfast about 8:15am to find all the mess from somebody's dinner the night before was still all over the floor in the bar area. Breakfast was good and not small portions like another review has said. Maybe they listened to the comment. I hope they see this one and first of all teach your kitchen staff some manners. The guy behind the bar was friendly, as was the girls waiting on and the breakfast staff. Could have been a really nice break, but marred for us by the events described. another day would probably be completely different.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, our room (2) was over the bar and quite noisy

We have visited The Ship a few times for a drink, the setting is beautiful. Yesterday we stopped for lunch while travelling on The Severn Valley Railway and were not disappointed. Wonderful fish and chips, huge portions! and great ribeye steak. With a glass of wine or two the perfect way to while away a sunny Friday afternoon. Lovely friendly chatty staff too. If only all pubs were the same!.
