we visited highley engine house where steam engines are kept and have been lovingly restored. the journey to the museum was by steam train from Kidderminster and was really great experience. the museum is a visitors centre and has an interesting shop and also a cafe where it is possible to get a lovely hot or cold meal at reasonable prices. the steam engines included the royal train which it is possible to have a guided tour of. On the whole a really enjoyable day.

Loved this such a great place to visit and included in your fare if you travel the whole length of the railway. really enjoyed sorting the mail with my grandson and also being shown around the Kings carriage by a very knowledgeable guide. We went to the restaurant on the second floor and were very disappointed by the poor hot food both quality and price. however the sandwich my husband wisely had was perfect.

If you want the authentically mucky atmosphere (Lovely!) of a real Steam Locomotive Shed, there's Bridgnorth Station. However, if you prefer a clean, dry, easy-access exhibition, where you don't have to watch the kids like a hawk, then the Engine House is the place to go. Part of the Severn Valley Railway, this well-designed modern facility houses the 'Reserve Collection', including locomotives that have reached the end of their running 'MOT', as well as coaches, wagons and other artefacts. Locomotives not scheduled for overhaul in the short term - a lengthy and expensive process - are 'bulled-up' to perfection and displayed under cover. Volunteer guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very approachable. Excellent shop, restaurant and outside viewing gallery to watch the working trains go by, or just to enjoy the river scenery. A 'Freedom of the Line’ railway ticket includes admission, otherwise a pretty reasonable £5.50 (usual concessions)

The engine house is a great place to take children, of whatever age(!) to see steam engines and learn more about them.

The facilities are clean and accessible, and the food in the restaurant is first class.

Been there many times and always found it the same - friendly, helpful staff, good exhibits, great food.

I visited The Engine House following the recommendation of the conductor on a recent trip on the Severn Valley Railway.

I had a lovely meal of faggots which was excellent value for money.

The video displays are very interesting and they tell the history of the railway. You can walk inside some of the trains and videos automatically start when you approach them.

Overall a very well designed museum and well worth stopping off when on the railway.
