A friend and I recently stayed at the Beaumont Inn for one night. Our experience was somewhat different from those related by other travelers on this site, in that we spent a very uncomfortable night. First let me say that the Beaumont's grounds are absolutely beautiful and convenient to shopping and exploring in Harrodsburg. The main building, in which our room was located, is charming and evocative of the old South. The gift shop was extensive and pleasant to peruse. In addition, it was convenient to have a choice of three dining options on the grounds. We ate at the Owl's Nest. My dinner was good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch ot the Inn after dinner. Breakfast, which is included in the room rate, was lovely and offered both healthy and (very) guilty choices. The cheese grits were just wonderful.
The day we arrived, the temperature was in the mid 80s and sunny. Our room was on the third floor. When we checked in, we found that the room was very warm and stuffy. The Inn is heated and cooled from a central system, so we called the front desk to report that the room was uncomfortably warm. We were advised that they would send someone to turn the fan on, but the situation never improved. We opened the window but noise from other guests enjoying the warm night outdoors and from the nearby road made it difficult to sleep. The room remained too warm for comfortable sleep until early in the morning when it turned much cooler. I had only about three hours sleep. We never learned whether the air conditioning had been turned off for the season or third floor rooms are always difficult to cool.
Our room had comfortable beds and upholstered chairs, as well as a lovely dresser. The pillows on my bed, however, were too flat and uncomfortable. One of the pillows was rather elderly and overdue for retirement (lumpy), but it was the best of the lot. Housekeeping was good but the deep pink walls had a dingy appearance and needed some freshening.
I am sure that the other reviewers had different experiences than I did. I would love to try the Beaumont again, if i could determine that our discomfort was due to unusual circumstances.
