“A Different Experience”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

A friend and I recently stayed at the Beaumont Inn for one night. Our experience was somewhat different from those related by other travelers on this site, in that we spent a very uncomfortable night. First let me say that the Beaumont's grounds are absolutely beautiful and convenient to shopping and exploring in Harrodsburg. The main building, in which our room was located, is charming and evocative of the old South. The gift shop was extensive and pleasant to peruse. In addition, it was convenient to have a choice of three dining options on the grounds. We ate at the Owl's Nest. My dinner was good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch ot the Inn after dinner. Breakfast, which is included in the room rate, was lovely and offered both healthy and (very) guilty choices. The cheese grits were just wonderful.

The day we arrived, the temperature was in the mid 80s and sunny. Our room was on the third floor. When we checked in, we found that the room was very warm and stuffy. The Inn is heated and cooled from a central system, so we called the front desk to report that the room was uncomfortably warm. We were advised that they would send someone to turn the fan on, but the situation never improved. We opened the window but noise from other guests enjoying the warm night outdoors and from the nearby road made it difficult to sleep. The room remained too warm for comfortable sleep until early in the morning when it turned much cooler. I had only about three hours sleep. We never learned whether the air conditioning had been turned off for the season or third floor rooms are always difficult to cool.

Our room had comfortable beds and upholstered chairs, as well as a lovely dresser. The pillows on my bed, however, were too flat and uncomfortable. One of the pillows was rather elderly and overdue for retirement (lumpy), but it was the best of the lot. Housekeeping was good but the deep pink walls had a dingy appearance and needed some freshening.

I am sure that the other reviewers had different experiences than I did. I would love to try the Beaumont again, if i could determine that our discomfort was due to unusual circumstances.

The Beaumont Inn is a larger inn, unlike the smaller more intimate bed and breakfasts. I must say I missed the evening glass of wine to meet other guests, but equally loved the privacy of our stay.

The rooms are large and opulent, very quiet and elegant in a very Southern way. The included breakfast is so not quickly thrown together. It hums a melody matching the groans in the dining room: biscuits coated with sausage-decked gravy, crisp fried Kentucky bacon, freshly pared fruit and cheese grits. (Do not go here while on a diet of any kind.) The wait-staff is marvelously friendly!

The Inn boasts a variety of dining: casual and table clothed, but no dining on Sunday night, which is a bit of a problem should your stay include Monday. The town of Harrodsburg is not a destination to speak of lacking intimate dining and unique shopping.

At Beaumont there are walking paths and places to sit, a friendly town and marvelous day trips. We did Versailles (horses and gorgeous land) and Midway on a Sunday when the precious shops were closed sadly. Take that trip during the week! We did Bardstown during the week and enjoyed the selection of stores and gifts and certainly enjoyed the drive.

We loved our time here: Kentucky is a place to SEE, and Beaumont is a place to rest!!!

Room Tip: We chose the room with the separate porch! YUMMY!

When I was a young man, I could not afford to take a date for an evening meal at the Beaumont Inn. After fifty years of dreaming I was able to take my wife, A Burgin High grad, our daughter A LA Music Executive, my sister a retired educator, and my cousin, a Viet Nam vet and his mate. The moral of the above writing is don't give up,

The history of the inn has an impact on the diners. The food merits all the honers ever given. The historic buildings stand strong allowing guest to take pause.

You do not have to have Kentucky Heritage to experience the beauty of the area and appreciation of its history. The dining experience alone will brighten your understanding the merits of good dining.

Enjoy your visit. Our family did

Enjoy

The Beaumont is comparably priced to a nice motel but ever so much more charming. First built as a school in the 1800s, furnished with antiques, it is a beautiful site and has superlative service and wonderful accommodations. Real keys, attentive staff, an exquisite formal diningroom, a comfortable cosy bar and a second casual restaurant/bar. Offers everything you desire as well as a FULL breakfast. The diningroom and chef deserve a seperate review but simply- awesome (of course the sous chef was on Iron Kitchen while we were there) The poached pear salad started a meal par excellence that ended with moist delectable cake. Good wine selection as well-really pleased I could get a small bottle of sparkling wine (my friends chose not to drink). Just wonderful-I want to go back!

Room Tip: You can pick your room on line-there are three buildings. In the main inn there is central air and h...

I have been to Beaumont Inn many times over the years. It has been in the Dedmond family for five generations and is better than ever. The food is out of this world. Country ham was WONDERFUL. Service was out of this world. Breakfast buffet had cheese grits real scramble eggs not powdered eggs. Their corn cakes melt in your mouth. I am ready to go back now.

We visited here as part of our whiskey trail, and found it very pleasant. Historical, charming building, very comfortable accommodation and appointed with antiques. Great breakfast, excellent service (Chastity is superb, very attentive), good value.

Enjoyed a visit to Beaumont Inn in August, stayed in the Greystone Building in a lovely blue toile decorated room. The food was good, except for the grilled chicken which was bland, in the Owls Tavern which was the only restaurant open while we were there on Monday and Tuesday. The Inn may consider that some guests might need a place for lunch or at least snack on Monday and Tuesday and none was available. My husband was working in the area and had he not been able to pick me up for lunch, there is nowhere within walking distance from the Inn. Also, was concerned because we left the DND sign on our door, and upon returning to the room, a plumber was in the room. When we notified the front desk, there was no apology for the intrusion which surprised us. The person at the front desk didn't appear too concerned about customer service. Otherwise, the Inn was satisfactory and we did attempt to email the Dedmans; however, from the webpage, the email was not working.
