Description: Major things are happening at Stansfield Compasses; the local farmer is supplying the pub with beef, lambs, turkeys, rare breed pigs, wild venison and game of all sorts. Next year, we will growing our own vegetables, herbs and salads in a smallholding next to the pub. We are also starting a microbrewery in the farm using barley, wheat and eventiually hops grown in the farm. This will be powered by our solar farm and a bio-mass converter and the water will come from our own borehole. Our artisan baker makes bread from grain from the farm and is traditionally ground in a windmill at Pakenham. We believe in local not because of air miles etc but because it tastes so much better.

This really is a unique place. We ate here twice whilst staying nearby. Settle at the bar with a drink and let Tony talk you through what's on offer- no menus here. Venison he's just butchered after hanging in his meat store for 21 days? Pigeon breast, shot by the local rat catcher? Or maybe roast chicken, straight from the beer garden at the back? Complemented by an assortment of the freshest veg sitting in a large basket on the bar, just picked from a neighbours garden. Combine these wonderful local ingredients with a very good chef (Tony as well) and your onto a winner. I can honestly say that my pigeon breast was the best I've ever had- easily beating one I had recently at the slightly grander Cliveden Hotel!
Phone ahead if you're a group or have specific requests. Apparently Tony does a venison steak and kidney pudding which I intend to come back for some day soon.

Stayed a short distance away on the family run farm, had a meal in the pub which was still yet to start serving.
Made very welcome by the owner, Tony. No menu was available at the time BUT he did say "I can cook what ever you want!".

Had a meal with two adults and two fussy children. It was the best meal we have had out in a long time. Fish as advised was fantastic!

Lovely rural feel and relaxing. Will go again!
