“Highly Recommended”

My husband and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Las Grange Kentucky. After a long 12 hour drive from the gulf coast, I found this hotel to be a wonderful experience. The rooms were very clean and well furnished. The beds were new and we slept very well. Staff at the hotel were very helpful and there was a good selection of local eateries close to the hotel to aid this tired person. I would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Finding a room in Louisville was next to impossible due to a large event. Needing to go to the Louisville area, we booked the Holiday Inn Express in La Grange, KY hoping it wouldn't live down to the reviews it has been given on this site.
The exterior of the building has a slightly shabby appearance with landscaping materials in need of attention or replacement.
Upon entering the lobby we were greeted by an overwhelming odor of chlorine from the adjoining indoor pool.
Check in was difficult due to a language barrier, complicated by the noise of a laundry cart rolling by only feet away. When our payment was accepted by the clerk we were given a copy of USA Today as well as a receipt with two places to initial, one of which gave the option to refuse the USA Today and be refunded 75 cents for a product we had hadn't requested. I felt this was a cheap way to force the purchase of a newspaper. The clerk then gave us a wrinkled shopping bag that looked as if it had been used and reused, containing a couple of bags of snack food. The entire check in process was more difficult than it should have been and I felt the clerk feigned incompetence to irritate us.
When we exited the elevator on an upper level, the hallway had a musty smell accompanied by the stench of chlorine and cigarette smoke. When the cleaning crew walked by, their body odor nearly sent us back to the elevator. The hall carpet had a worn, stretched look and the windows at the end of the hall desperately needed to be cleaned.
The room was much smaller than expected, on the surface it appeared clean enough but the bathroom had been given only a cheap makeover of new wallpaper and possibly new floor tile with a tiny, old bathtub. The bed was comfortable but the sheets were undersized and constantly slipped off the mattress. It was a cheap imitation of other Holiday Inn Express locations.
There was no diagram in the room indicating where the ice machine was located. A call to the front desk lead to nothing but a wild goose chase. The clerk who answered the phone said ice machines were at the end of the hall on each floor next to the drink machines. When I asked which end of the hall, the response was "That's a good question!" Unfortunately there was no ice machine on either the 2nd or 3rd floors. After searching first floor, the drink and ice machines were near the middle of the hall, not the end. I was unable to find another ice machine in the hotel.
The WiFi signal was weak and very slow.
We arrived for breakfast a bit late and the eggs had a crunchy crust which I'm sure developed sitting in the warmer for an extended time. They were less than optimal but edible. Also served were biscuits, gravy, sausage, cereals, breads, juices and milk products. For a free breakfast, it wasn't bad.
Check out is 11am but we discovered at 10:40 our key cards had been deactivated. When we went to the front desk to check out, at least 2 employees could be heard in the back office deep in conversation. They failed to respond when another guest called out to them. After waiting a short time, I reached over the counter and used their phone to call "0" to request service the front desk. The clerk who responded was very pleasant and familiar with the Enqlish language since birth. We complained about being locked out early and she explained the key cards sometimes become demagnetized. She then contradicted herself by saying several guests had the same thing happen that morning. Obviously the cards had been purposely deactivated before check out time. Another unnecessary aggravation.
The hotel is privately owned and the Holiday Inn organization needs to look closely at this property to determine if they truly deserve to carry the HIE name. The comfortable atmosphere and nicer feeling of other HIE properties is missing at this site. Instead it has the feel of an older hotel that was only partially upgraded and pennies were pinched whenever possible.
This hotel sadly lived down to it's TA reviews

Easy access from freeway. Desk clerk gave us the "Senior Discount' --then we brought out the coupon book obtained from the Welcome Travel Center--what a suprise--$20.00 cheaper. So much for the senior discount. So be careful, desk clerks may not offer you the best deal. Room was clean, but dusty. I wiped off a lot of dust from the lamps, TV, & alarm clock.

We arrived around 11:00 p.m. and this hotel was highly recommended by the staff at a local restaurant. We were not disappointed! The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is being renovated and construction is almost complete. We were not put off by that and the reno is nicely done. The beds are brand new Simmons Beautyrest (I know, I looked for the label) because it was by far the best sleep and most comfortable bed I have ever encountered in a hotel/ motel. The room had a fridge and micro, high speed internet, was very clean and extremely quiet despite the fact that it was a full hotel. We got the last parking spot and the last room available that night. It was a little pricey at $99 for the room, considering where we were, but an excellent value for the nights sleep we had.

Hotel was smelly and dirty. Did I say SMELLY!? Staff did not care if you were there or not. I do not believe they like Americans if you catch my drift. Breakfast ....well glad it's free........but is disgusting. Took one bite of a sausage patty and realized it had a green tint. Spit that out. Gross! Area is in a dry county so don't expect to be able to drink to make this hotel appear better. Your only option is Applebees down the street. Which is as high end as the town gets. Oh and the indoor pool is basically and oversized hot tub - all 3 ft deep of it - keep driving!

Room was acceptable but the Front Desk and Management were NOT. After a late evening the prior day, we were awaken at 6 am (5 am our time) by a phone wake-up call we did not request. When I asked the desk why they woke us out of a sound sleep, they simply shrugged and said our room was set up for an automatic 6:00 wake up call. No apologies offered. Absurd!! I went to get breakfast and it was locked at 9:33 on a Sunday! No coffee, no nothing. No check out statement under my door. A gentleman in front of me in line also asked for a bill and found out they were planning on charging him for an extra day, good thing he asked!! Don't trust these people. Looks like they want to amass as much money as possible then skip town. Shame on Holiday Inn for allowing bad operators. Just look at all the poor ratings!

We went with our soccer team. Almost everyone got charged for two night when only two families stayed two nights. It's ridiculous that a hotel can't even charge people right. The manager is a joke. We were all overall very unhappy with our trip. Keep driving a find a better hotel and service.
