Owner description: The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man's relationship with the horse. Set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of the Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, the park is THE place to get close to horses! Featuring dozens of breeds of horse at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, horseback and pony rides, and an array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. The park's International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is the world's largest equestrian museum. Offering both the experienced horseman and novice an opportunity to explore the many facets of humanity's relationship with the horse, the museum is dedicated to all breeds and disciplines of horse and covers some 50-million years of equine history. State-of-the-art technology complements rare artifacts and scholarly research to present a unique, educational, museum experience for all ages. The American Saddlebred Museum, the Showplace for Saddlebreds, celebrates Kentucky's first native breed of horse. The museum features interactive exhibits and a movie. With the park's own tourist activities and the numerous additional horse shows that take place in the equine competition facilities throughout the year, there can be a fair amount of walking involved, depending on visitor interest level. Comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended, appropriate for Kentucky's seasonal weather. Dogs and other pets are permitted on park grounds, as long as they are on a leash or in an approved carrier, although they may not be permitted in some buildings.

“Great visit”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We camped at the Kentucky Horse Park just after Labor Day weekend. I only wish more RV campgrounds were as clean and spacious and peaceful as this one. The cost was $54 for 2 nights (W and E...no full hook-ups). Not only was it the nicest campground we stayed at in our 5+ week trip, but it was also the cheapest. We have a 30 foot class C RV and don't tow. They told me when I checked in that someone would take us to visit the horse park area, which is about 1/2 mile walk from the campground. The next day we were on a golf cart for a complementary ride to see the horses. The man was quite nice, and went inside with us and made sure we got the entrance fee rate for campers - $12 each. The horse park itself is really nice, lots of close contact with horses of all kinds. The show of different kinds of horses was very interesting, and the horses themselves were beautiful and obviously well taken care of. At the Hall of Champions I saw the grave of Ramblin' Willie, a trotter who used to race at the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ. I won a lot of money on Willie, so finding his grave there was the icing on the cake for me. I definitely recommend the Kentucky Horse Park, both for camping and the Park itself. The staff is all very friendly. We asked someone in a golf cart if they could take us back to the campground, and they just said "hop on." What a nice place it turned out to be.

“Horse lover's delight”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Every time I visit the Horse Park I am more amazed with the price, the facilities, and the people. We have visited the Park more than 20 times for events, shows, camping and just to walk around. This is home to Champions. From the youngest riders to the World Class Rolex show to Kentucky Derby winners, every level and every rider will enjoy the best place to honor these noble animals. This is a must see if you have ever owned a horse or just dreamed of one of your own.

“A pleasant way to spend a few hours.”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Especially liked the Hall of Champions where they showed a clip of "The Race" that made each horse famous-- then they brought out that horse. This is the retirement home of many racehorses. They also have a little horse show highlighting different breeds of horses. The grounds are beautifully kept. We had a nice lunch at the Farmhouse Restaurant at the park. They will take you over and pick you up in a golf cart as it is a bit of a hike. Enjoyable day here!

“Loved it”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

We thought we could just cruise through this park and see the horses real quick before we started the 2nd leg of a road trip. We didn't want to leave! You could easily spend a day or two here. It was so neat to see the Champion horses, and all of the horse shows we had time to see were great. The museum was kid friendly and very clean, updated, and well-maintained. All of that said, we aren't even really big horse lovers - just thought it would be neat to see it. I will definitely go back here and spend a day.

“A Must-See for the Horse Lover”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

The price of admission to this huge complex is reasonable. The grounds are immaculate. There are many opportunities to see horses up-close and ask questions about the various breeds on display. The indoor exhibits are interesting and very well-presented. I especially enjoyed the Hall of Champions, where retired champion racehorses are brought one-by-one into a small covered grandstand, where the accomplishments of each of the horses are described, along with video from the horse's racing career. This up-close look of the racehorses shows just how large and breathtakingly magnificent they are. The one thing I did not care for was a "show" put on by a group of riders on Hafflinger horses. This demonstration was very amateurish and uninteresting.
