Many very old stones. Was impressed by Henry Clay's monument. It raises high above the grounds and tops the surrounding trees.
If interested you can stop by the office for a detailed map.

This was so very peaceful yet so full of history. Being a genealogist this was quite an adventure. Don't be in Lexington and miss this.

The finely mowed and old-fashioned Lexington cemetary has strict 8-5 hours. According to the man who accosted us today, if you try to walk over the fancy stone fence after hours, the police will catch you on their cameras and arrest you for trespassing. The plantings are all old fashioned exotics anyway, with no awareness of the significance of native species. Since this is the only decent park in this bluegrass crazy town, I can't recommend it, despite the good bourbon.

The Lexington Cemetery is a walk through beautiful trees and plantings. Its a walk through history and lush green spaces. Its quiet and meditative. A great place to take a walk or do some photography any time of the year.

Spring comes alive in a surprising venue -- Lexington National Cemetery! Drive through the montage of memorials to the Lexington citizens who have gone before you. Stop and drink in the beauty of the trees that hug the warren of roads that crisscross the cemetery. Find an isolated venue, get out, walk around and give thanks for the gift of life. An hour here will bring everything into perspective.
