“Misses the mark for a purported upscale hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2012

If you are visiting UK in Lexington, the location of this hotel can't be beat. It's right across Limestone from campus. But there the kudos stop.

The UI charges and acts like a upper tier hotel but the room and the experience you receive disappoints. Desk staff is comprised of college students unfamiliar with good customer service and devoid of knowledge other than the basics of checking you in and out. Our rooms were in their annex, which smelled like some sort of nightmarish ethnic restaurant. I don't know what was going in in the little unstaffed lobby but it stunk. The room itself has no desk, no coffee maker and a tiny bathroom. The internet has a 22-character password that doesn't work--and no one on staff knows what to do about it. The IT service on call asks for a voice mail that is not returned.

Now, don't misunderstand: this hotel is not a dump. It is clean and retains some of the patina of an upscale hostelery. But it compares poorly with hotels that charge much less. Try the Crowne Plaza several blocks away. It is a much superior property.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Annex. Get a room in the main building. They must be better and at least you...

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. I had an early morning appointment at Lexington Clinic and was given a special hospital rate. The location made it super convenient. The beds were very comfortable and I found the room to be completely spotless. I know somepeople had complained about the sounds of sirens but really you're in Lexington so what do you expect. We will be staying here again in November as I have another appointment and I know we will find it just as nice as this time.

We stayed for one night on our youth mission trip. The whole staff was very accomidating. The check in was very easy. They even had cross shaped suckers for us. What a tasty surprise. They let us have use of a conference room to have a meeting with our group. They offered great suggestions on places to eat and even printed out directions for us. We were very happy with University Inn. If we ever travel through Lexington again, we will stay again for sure.

Dropped in for a night with my 10 year old son. Very friendly and accomodating staff. The room was all around very comfortable and I had parking right out front.

Room Tip: I'm sure any room will be pleasant.

Nice looking structure from the outside. Clean and airy on the inside. Good exercise room. Great laundry room. And all front desk people were helpful.
My room was advertised as a king/ kitchenette. Was suprised to find just a microwave, coffe pot, small sink, refrigerator and counter top area. No other items provided..i.e., no pots, np dishes, no silverware. So if you are planning to prepare something in the kitchenette area you will be disappointed.
My room also only had wall lights, no lamp on the night table. This I requested and it was quickly provided.
Ceilings are high and rooms were larger than normal. Breakfast was included but more like a Bestwestern than a Hampton Inn breakfast.

This hotel is located next to UK, their stadiun, basketball arena and several great resturants. The rooms are clean and very comfortable and affordable!

Stayed at University Inn for 3 nights while our crew visited UK (2 rooms).

The hotel is made up of two converted apartment buildings. The layout is not your typical business traveler hotel. Rooms are spacious but have no desks. The rooms and common areas were kept very clean.

One room, with a queen bed, had a large counter with sink, mini fridge and microwave in the room. The other room had two double beds with no other extras.

The overwhelming positive attribute is the location. Walk across the street to south campus (although its a large campus). It's a ten minute walk to the bookstore / student center and the bars & restaurants along S. Limestone near Ave. of Champions.

Most of the hotel front desk employees are young. There is one particularly useless young man who is new to the area, can't give directions, and thinks "I don't know" is a perfectly fine response to any question a guest may have. Another young lady is extremely helpful.

The "free" continental breakfast is unremarkable - like most. I would stay here again when visiting UK.

Room Tip: One room had two double beds with not much else. The other room had a queen plus a counter with sin...
