Anyone who is a college basketball fan, or a fan of the Wildcats, this place is a must see. Located downtown next to the Hyatt and in the Lexington Center, this is a great place to take in a game and meet some new friends. Walking in the door, there is the original center court of Rupp Arena. Down the escalators was the Basketball Museum, which has now closed down due to the outrageous yearly lease at the civic center ($350,000). It was a great place to go to learn about UK. You can schedule a tour of the facility if you wish. You will get to see various parts of the arena. If you are attending a game, you're in for a treat. Roughly 30 minutes before game time the pep band makes its rounds through the concourse playing music and getting everyone pumped up. Inside Rupp the concession areas have been upgraded and are more presentable that the previous ones. The seats in Rupp are alright, a bit tight and not much leg room. Getting a ticket to even goto a game is harder now than ever thanks to Mitch Barnhart requiring ridiculous amounts of money be donated for rights to seats in the lower arena. If you get a ticket it is more than likely in the upper arena. Not bad, but there are no backs on the bench style seats. The sight lines at the top of the arena are poor, with the action being blocked by the lights in the rafters. They have TVs for you to see, but they are small 25" analogs. The atmosphere is unmatched though. 24,000 screaming fans, the noise is deafening. All of the greats have their jerseys in the rafters and all of UKs banners are hung as well. Game on!
