Very nice experience to enjoy this piece of history. The kids just learned about Abraham Lincoln and this provided a piece of history and an insight to one of our greatest americans. Very nice educational experience and happy to have shared with my children.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

The house is authentic so you get a good feel of what life was like for Mary Todd Lincoln when she was a young girl. Later Abraham and her visited the house and stayed for weeks and it's neat to visit somewhere where you know Abe Lincoln slept and stayed for a while.

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

I was not sure what to expect, as coming from England we have some very impressive historic houses, however I really enjoyed this tour. The house is quite small, and has been totally renovated and furnished in period style. It has been done very well and the result is a warm welcoming and quite homely house. Our tour guide was very well informed and gave us an interesting insight into the early life of the wife of President Lincoln.

For readers, since "small" and "large" are relative terms, the house is approximately 5,500 square feet and covers thirteen rooms. And stairs are involved. Thanks for the review!

“Don't Miss It!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2013 via mobile

My husband and I have followed the Lincoln story from Kentucky to where he was born, to Lexington where he met Mary Todd, to Springfield where he lived and left for the presidency,to Washington and his monument and Ford's theater, to his final resting place in Springfield, Illinois. On the way we learned of the tragic story of his wife Mary who was actually committed into an insane asylum by her son, and was later released to have found that medication had caused her hallucinations and turmoil. You don't want to miss her story and can see her home when visiting downtown Lexington! Kentucky! Both Amanda and Tom, well informed tour guides will share her story. Her home is open from mid March until the end of November. Most of it has been restored and in fact her home is the FIRST of all the president's wives to open! The tour takes about an hour and you will go in small groups! Well worth the time and $10 entrance fee!

Thanks for the kind review! To clarify for readers, the Lincolns did not meet in Lexington, although they did visit Lexington together after their marriage. Also, historians have many different takes on Mrs. Lincoln's mental. The effects of now illegal medications is just one of those theories. Thanks!
