“Good food, terrible seating arrangement”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

Five of us came on a Saturday night to have dinner. We arrived at 7:15 and had to stand in line for about 20 minutes before we were encouraged to sit at some benches on the side of the dining room. The dining room only has 4 tables in it. Eventually the host let us know that there was an open seat where the band was playing-but it was a $10 cover. None of us wanted to pay $10 to sit in a dimly lit room to watch a band we don't know play music we don't like when we were there to just have a meal before going out for the night so we resumed sitting along the wall bench and not being attended to by the wait staff. Eventually we got a table after finally placing our orders. I had the wings (which are certainly the best I've ever had) and the brisket sandwich with Mac n cheese. The sandwich and fries were top notch, the Mac n cheese was just ok. The food is incredible, but I wasn't a fan of arriving at 7:15, having nowhere to sit except a bench and having to jump on a table while people were leaving then being cramped in. Our food took forever to get to the table to the point we had to remind our waitress that we hadn't been served. We finally got our food at 8:45 and left about 9:30-well over 2 hours from when we arrived. I will never go there for dinner on a weekend again. It'll only be lunch for me or take out from now on. The building is small and I think they really need to decide what they want to be, a small show venue, or a restaurant, because trying to be both with their current space isn't going to fly for people who wanted a meal, not to watch a band play(which by the way you can watch on their tvs and hear over the sound system negating the need for you to pay $10 and sit in a dimly lit room and try to eat). Had I went on a weekday at lunch this would be a 5 star review but this is a classic case of a restaurant trying to be too much. If you aren't interested in the music, there's no way I'd go back on a weekend.

“A good local experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

Our first night dinner here on our recent roadtrip - my hubby and me both had some awesome chicken wings, Also with the live bluegrass music , the locals singing along and of course the best chicken wings that I have ever had with some blackberry habanero sauce, I would say it was a great experience

“Best BBQ in KY!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 December 2013

This place is awesome. Truly amazing food. The food alone deserves 5 stars but that's not it. Every music show we've caught here has been an experience in itself. Thumbs up to Willie's Locally Known!

“YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2013

Came down on a Tuesday night for a show and was greeted with a smile and seated quickly. Was surprised there was no cover charge for the band; they were a phenomenal "bluesy" group and as it turns out play for free every Tuesday (called the Northside Sheiks I think). I ordered a BBQ stuffed potato with brisket, I normally don't even like meat, but my friend insisted. Food came out in a timely fashion and it was HUGE. I'm the kind of girl who can eat and I'm used to leaving places hungry, but this was perfect. The brisket was wonderful and practically melted in my mouth! They also had a long list of local and craft brews on tap, I had a crisp blonde from Country Boy as an end to a lovely meal and evening. I am looking forward to returning here every time I come to Lexington to visit. I want that patio to be open now! :D

“Great Place to See Music”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

I attended a concert at Willie's. It is a perfect sized facility for the alt-country performers I like. In addition to nationally-known live acts Willie's serves food; and, unlike other places I have visited that combine food and music, the servers at Willie's do not impede the enjoyment of the music by dealing with your tab while the performers are onstage.

The only warning is that Willie's DOES allow smoking -- on the patio area, NOT in the concert area. If you have allergies/sensitivities to cigarette smoke keep this in mind because it is noticeable even though the area is separate.
