“Always a great dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Jonathan's is our "go to" restaurant when we entertain out-of-town guests as we know the food is always excellent, the atmosphere is friendly (but not too loud), and a great wine selection.

“Enjoyable over all...BUT”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Had a 7:00 reservation , for our 40th wedding anniversary dinner. Arrived on time and hostess seemed surprised we had a reservation. We were seated promptly, and I noted the restaurant was not even half full, so I'm very sure a reservation wasn't necessary. (and this was a Friday)
Our waiter was very attentive, and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list. I must say this, we have been to many restaurants with "so called waiters," both in the US and Europe. This gentleman was a true professional waiter, made a visit more enjoyable. The atmosphere was quiet and cozy , just what we wanted.
We both had the fried green tomato salad, which was great. My wife had the roasted salmon, served on a cedar plank . the presentation was nice, and meal was very tasty, however the portions were small. I had the bourbon & coke braised beef. Again, the presentation was very nice , the sauce had a kick and was great. BUT the beef was as tough as shoe leather, not much of an exaggeration. I would never order this dish again. The desserts were great, banana pudding with a bourbon topping , and a caramel cake. As the title of this review says, the , overall this was an enjoyable evening, but I just don't feel we received a $150.00 dinner.
It is not my intent to promote another restaurant, so I will only say, we dined at another Lexington well known steak house the next night , and the dinner was twice as good, and at 66% less the cost. However , the hour wait to be seated was frustrating as heck.

“Outstanding in Lexington”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

First, let's get some minor comments out of the way. The restaurant in located off the lobby of a business/hotel and has no bar scene. They do have a full bar that includes a decent spirit selection but IMO is weak in the wine department. However, that is minor compared to the overall experience as this was one of the best restaurants ever from a pure food prospective. While my shrimp & grits were fantastic, the wife's veggie plate took the prize.....it was unbelievable. Obviously, this review is based on one visit and we only sampled two entree's; however, given the limited evidence, we would highly recomment Jonathan's.

“Homestyle cooking with a twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

The food here was very enjoyable. Had black-eyed peas like never before. They were crunchy and well seasoned. The food here has that home cooking taste but with a twist. The atmosphere is quiet and comfy.

“Outstanding restaurant in Lexington”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Interesting menu. Outstanding service. Excellent meal!
A nice option if you're looking for a "nicer" place with very good food. And it's in an interesting location--at Gratz Park.
We were there for dinner.
Definitely worth a visit!
