This hotel is always crowded, there is always an event, conference or wedding going on so keep that in mind as the sound proofing is extremely poor in many rooms- pack earplugs. Service is great, the gym is spacious, there is an indoor and outdoor pool and it is a short drive away from UKY. I really like the concierge lounge around happy hour, it is quiet, comfortable and the snacks are way better than in other Marriott's. I would stay here again if I am in the area for business.

Stayed one night 11/9/13, paid $70 per room via Priceline. Really clean, quiet, comfortable, friendly, nice pool. We paid $15 for buffet breakfast each, but it was really nice, lots of fresh fruit, made to order omelets. friendly staff.
Would stay again, especially at that price!

This is noted as a resort, but falls a little short of what we would expect for a "resort". It does have a golf course and SPA. It is really a very nice hotel for a town the size of Lexington. The room are very nice with small bathrooms. Staff is wonderful. Lots of setting areas in the lobby area for family and business gathering of 8-10 people. Breakfast buffet is overpriced ($15) but very good for all of the basics. Food is presented nicely but it is just normal breakfast food. What really griped me and others is the automatic tip of 20% for a buffet! This was after waiting much to long to get our coffee and juice (beverages are the only thing brought to the table). Another gripe as with most all upper end hotels is the $13 daily charge for internet usage. However, you can go to the lobby and get it free. All other lower priced Marriotts (Court Yard, Fairfield Inns, Resident Inn, etc) provide free internet in the room. Of course the restaurant and bar are very over priced. Certain areas were starting to show there age such as sinks in public restroom and broken and chipped tiles in the floor.

Room Tip: Rooms can be a long walk from the elevators. Ask for a room in the middle of the halls for main entry or room at end of halls and use entrances at either end of the building.

My husband, teenaged son and I stayed at Griffin Gate while in Lexington for a college visit to the University of Kentucky. We used our Marriott travelers points for the stay. After reading some of the online reviews of the property I was unsure as to what to expect. We were all pleasantly surprised. Griffin Gate may not exactly fit the room qualifications for a top-notch Marriott property but the hotel/resort was lovely.
We were greeted warmly and given a room on the 6th floor overlooking the front of the property which sits on a beautiful golf course. Our room was well appointed and comfortable but very small, especially the bathroom. It was difficult for one person to move about in there, let alone having two adults try to use the vanity area at the same time. Definitely not a 5-star category room. I must also mention that there needed to be more attention payed to the cleaning of the room. There was hair on the tile in the shower and noticeable smudges on the light switch and door surround as well as dust and buildup on the cabinetry in the bathroom. The room itself did not appear to have been dusted very well either.

We didn't have the time to relax and enjoy all of the amenities but after taking a look around, it seemed very nice. My husband and son used the pool/sauna area and enjoyed it until a separate group decided it would be a good idea to smoke in the pool area. It was only a matter of minutes before someone from the hotel staff came and corrected the situation. I didn't use the spa services but peeked in and was greeted warmly by the young lady on staff. She treated me to a sampling of some of their locally made scrubs and creams that they also sell on site.
We also had access to the concierge lounge which was also warm and inviting. The staff seemed constantly busy stocking, re-filling and making sure the guests were taken care of. In the evening they had a beautiful salad, cheeses, crackers and a small selection of hot appetizers in addition to beverages of your choice. In the morning the lounge was well stocked with egg dishes, hot oatmeal and a deluxe Continental selection as well. Starbucks coffee and Tazo teas were available morning and night. They also offered a large selection of bottled beer and cocktails for purchase. I enjoyed a locally made Kentucky Bourbon beer that you can only find in state...delicious!
The hotel is older but beautifully renovated and the staff that we encountered were all very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay but if we hadn't used our Marriott points, I'm not sure I would spend the considerable dollars to stay there again due to the size of the rooms, bed type and the tiny bathroom space. I would highly suggest getting a King room or asking about a suite room type if you're concerned with the space.

Room Tip: Our room on the 6th floor (604) was very quiet and looked out over the front of the property which was pretty but I would ask for a golf course view.

The hotel is quite dated, with worn old carpet. The room was always damp and moisture hung in the air. The overall feel of the hotel was not 4-star, as it desperately needs renovation. I would not recommend staying in this hotel, despite its 4-star rating.

Hello bealar,

Thank for staying with us in August and for your recent review. We of course are disappointed to see that you were not satisfied with your stay and would very much like to look into this further. All of our guest rooms were renovated early this year and $5 million dollars were invested in completely updating our guest rooms - including all new carpeting - along with new carpeting, wall vinyl and lighting in all hallway corridors. We have had many guests comment on TripAdvisor on how pleased they are with our guest rooms and upgrades resulting from the renovation. So it is very troubling to read that you had a much different experience.

If you would please send me an email with your name, we will certainly take a second look at anything that may have contributed to your comments. We will also take a thorough look at the HVAC system in the room you occupied to ensure it is operating correctly.

We appreciate that you chose to stay with us, we appreciate your feedback, and hope that you will allow us the opportunity to welcome you back on any return trips to Lexington.

Kind Regards,

Dan Sirrine
