Our group reserved the museum for an evening dinner - tour guides were great - shared lots of tidbits about horse racing only they would know. Dinner and drinks with in the round movie were wonderful, great experience.

The Derby Museum and Churchill Downs (tour included in the museum ticket) are a must see in Louisville. The history of the Derby is so well documented, and the panoramic film on the Run for the Roses will give you goose bumps. Lots of interactive exhibits as well. And just being at Churchill Downs is exciting. Even if you aren't a big horse racing fan, you will love it, if just for the history. I highly recommend it. Oh and we enjoyed a very nice lunch in the cafe there.

You can't go to Louisville without visitng the Derby Museum and Churchill Downs. The museum is excellent with a great movie in the round which makes you feel like you are on the track. There are fun interactive exhibits for adults and kids. It's a hoot to try on hats in the gift shop. The basic tour is good, but I highly recommend the backside tour. You take a van to the area of the track where the horses are stabled and learn a lot more about the in and outs of horse racing and the Derby. We had an excellent guide named Barry who had been following the races since he was a child. It was a particularly fun time to be at Churchill Downs with all the excitement about California Chrome in the upcoming Belmont Stakes (alas, no triple crown again).

Gave you an insight about the grounds and you got to see a race and watch a movie and to learn a little something about what goes on inside the grounds. 2 in our group really wanted to go and the other 2 not so much but we left really having enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend it even if you are not into the horse scene.

When I visited the museum, my tour guide was not only knowledgable about the history of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs, but he exuded the very culture and heritage of it. He was personable, interesting and shared things I certainly never knew about the sport and the location. The displays in the museum were also interestingly arranged and I thoroughly enjoyed the racehorse game.
