I lived in Louisville when I was in college, so already knew this hotel had a great reputation and was very nice. So when we went back to Louisville to be "tourists again" for a long weekend this past fall, we knew we wanted to stay downtown near all the action, so the Galt House was our top choice.
We had four adults, and booked our room through Priceline with 2 queen sized beds. We were thrilled that upon check-in, we ended up getting a suite, not just a basic room!
Our suite had a separate living room with tv and fridge/microwave, with the bedroom separated by two doors (bathroom w/ separate vanity area was in the middle of the bedroom and living room). With the four of us, it allowed the early risers to move in to the other room to get ready, or watch tv without disturbing the others.

Also, the location was great! It's within walking distance of 4th Street Live with restaurants and entertainment, and also close enough to the Louisville Slugger museum and other activities nearby so that we didn't have to worry about moving our car all around. The University of Louisville's basketball (Yum! Center) is right around the corner as well.
I believe the couch in the living room area also was a sleeper sofa, so technically, the room could have accommodated up to two more guests! Very spacious.

The only cons would be that breakfast was not included so we had to go down the street to Starbucks or a café nearby or they do offer room service... and you had to pay to park (but it's in downtown, so that's standard.) Also, there was a half-marathon race the last morning we were there, so we could hear the loud music they were playing for the runners from our room, but it was a loud/professional sound system, so to complain about the noise might not be totally fair. Normal city noises weren't a problem.

They were decorating for Christmas when we were there so we got to see some of the beautiful decorations and lights that the hotel is known for. Everything was great and we'd stay again!

Room Tip: We were higher up on the "check-in" side of the hotel (there are two buildings separated by the street, but connected by a breeze-way/enclosed walkway). This is also the "older" of the two buildings, but still very clean and well-maintained. The hotel is right on the river so you could request a room w/ river view if you desire. Our room overlooked the city and the other building of the Galt hotel. I've stayed on the other side, too, and that side is very nice.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious. Hotel is great for conventions. Convenient for walking to many downtown attractions. Many places for gathering of a few friends or large groups. The bar in the bridge between building is an aquarium. Fish swim under your drink as you watch sports on the TV's.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a view of the river. The check in building has the larger rooms for the same price.

Good location , close to many attractions, loved skywalk to Yum Center. Liked closeness to river--stairs from hotel down to river were killers. Rooms were good- had a decent view of the river. Wish rooms had microwaves and refrigerators during convention time. Would definitely stay here again trolleys made it easy to get around area.

The Hotel was wonderful and my family enjoyed the pool and the experience of being downtown where many attractions were within walking distance. The hotel staff were very friendly. We stayed at this hotel for 3 days during our school Reunion. The staff did all they could do to make our stay a memorable one.

No problem with human service, but Elevators were extremely difficult to catch. Only two of the four ever opened during our stay and sometimes it took over 20 minutes of waiting. That was about an hour of our stay simply waiting!! Also, pool closes at 10pm--what?
