In my opinion this is the best restaurant in Louisville. I have gone there for years. Surprisingly the transition from Eddie Garber to the current Chef Ed Lee, did nothing to reduce my enjoyment. This is the place for a nice supper for two or when you really want to impress someone on a special occasion. We are lucky to have such a place here.

Two of us went on 2006 Breeders Cup day. Restaurant's website advertises $65 prix fixe. We were given a menu without a price, and when the bill arrived, it listed food at $150/person. Noone told us this when we booked or arrived. The couple at the table next to us were very upset when they got their bill and saw this. It appeared to ruin their evening.

The bad experience was not just about the price. The food and service were average at best. The amuse bouche course was interesting, but nothing else. Most of the items lacked pizazz. The beef was in a sauce that was too heavy on the mustard. Not bad food - just average food. Service was also not impressive (except for the woman who gave wine recommendations, who was excellent). Plates sat on table long after we were finished. We had to tell the waiter a few times that we were ready for a visit from him. Noone thanked us or said good night when we left.

Having lived in Manhattan for several years and dined at most of the top restaurants there, I am used to paying alot for high end prix fixe. My visit to Magnolia 610 was the first time I spent a large price on a prix fixe meal, and left feeling like the restaurant had "ripped us off". I left feeling like I had just been assaulted.

The 6-course menu of chef Edward Lee is certainly the best that one can find in Louisville. The food is truly excellent, and the service is impeccable. Dinner is $65 per person for the 6 course menu; expect a dinner for 2 to run, with tax and tip, to between 170 and 190, without wine or alcohol. The ambiance is a bit strange, and it can be awkward if you schedule dinner too early; I would suggest reservations for 7 or later.

C'était absolument super.
