“lovely theater”

The Kentucky Center and Brown Theatre
Reviewed 25 November 2013

We enjoyed a fine performance of War Horse by a traveling production. How perfect to see a show about a horse in Louisville! The audience was wonderful: enthusiastic and appreciative.

The facility was lovely: nice seating, clean, comfortable. There is no center aisle in the theater, so depending on where your seats are, you may find people climbing over you to get to theirs. However, there is enough leg room that it's not an issue most of the time. The trade-off is that there are more good seats in the center. We sat in p46-49 and were very happy with our location.

There is a parking garage in the center, and we used free weekend on-street parking about a block away.
The parking garage at the Ali Center is also very nearby.

All in all, this was very easy to manage.

The center is getting really old and needs updating. The problem is funding. Many shows are not doing well because of the economy. The ballet has been using canned music because it can not afford the orchestra. This takes so much away from the ballet. The center has acoustic problems from the design which is well documented. The center use to do so well and everyone wanted to be seen going to shows there. People dressed in their best to attend shows. Now they show up in every day clothing with a box of KFC to eat which watching the show. The center is working really hard to bring people back to the great shows. They have worked really hard to bring big name shows to the center to attract people. They are trying hard to get through this difficult time. The center and the arts deserve our support. The Christmas ballets and plays are really good. The Broadway series is very good.

Went to Louisville to see Lewis Black the Brown Theatre. The theatre itself was fairly small I thought. Very nice and clean though. I did appear to be well updated and nice. The décor was tasteful and again- clean.

I wish the seats had been a bit (okay, more than a bit) larger- and I am so glad that we had purchased our tickets early and bought end row tickets.

We love to attend the Broadway plays that come to Louisville here. It is a comfortable theatre with great views from most seats. We love to be on the floor or the first balcony toward the front so that we have a good view of the stage. We have seen over 10 plays here and always love to attend. The cost is comparable to other cities and at times the paper will run specials which allows us to attend an extra showing a year. Its a nice place to get a little dressed up for a date night and enjoy an evening performance. We have taken our adult kids as well and it is fun for the family as well.

I went to Louisville to see Louisville Ballet at the Kentucky Center, which is a spectacularly designed and well appointed theater offering a very well equipped stage, good audience sight lines, and comfortable seating. The ballet company, sensitively and passionately directed by Bruce Simpson, far exceeded my expectations in terms of artistry, technique, and production values. In particular the male corps was outstanding. Do go to one of their productions if you have the opportunity.
