“Great Value, Nice Cottages”
Reviewed 15 December 2010

I and a group of friends (two families with very young children) stayed at BRLR for a getaway weekend in the off-season and we were very pleased with the 2 BR cottages we stayed at. The cottages, themselves, seem solidly constructed with well-thought out floorplans.

Amenities were shared; one BR had an en suite bathroom, the other had deck access. Everything worked as it should and if there was a kitchen item we needed that was not included, the front desk was quickly helpful.

Because of the time of year, the full resort amenities were not available, but we expected that, it wasn't an issue. I would definitely stay here again. The only things I would ask for would be newer furniture and a DVD player.

We went on a family vacation to Barren River Lake to celebrate Dad's 80th Birthday. There were 11 of us, adults, teens and one younger child.
We stayed in 2 beach cottages, right next to each other, for 3 nights and loved it.
We didn't have a view of the beach, but I never understood that we would have a view anyway.
We had large family dinners, rented a pontoon boat for a day, rode horses, spent a lot of time in the pool, and drove to Mammoth Cave one day. (about an hour drive - not bad)
The cottages were immaculately clean, very spacious, and had everything we needed to prepare our meals. Linens/towels were abundant, and all the staff we spoke with were very helpful and professional.
A+

Wish I read July review. We were told beach cottage, lake view. Only if you bring a chainsaw and cut down the trees. and no beach. They charged us EXTRA for the fourth night. Rude staff. Cottages in need on renovation. Great golf course though and great place to fish, however, bring your own boat and I don't think I would eat the fish or swim in the lake=river. If you do go to the area, don't miss Diamond Caverns and Bowling Green would be a better area to stay.

We went there for the Beach, We called and were told how nice the beach was with lots of activities..they failed to mention it was closed..what a wasted 3 hour drive to Nothing to Do..we golfed, rode horses and sat at the filthy cabin and the pool, B-O-R-I-N=G......Then the people at the boat rentals tried to over charge us in the afternoon..in the morning the rental boats were 175 for the day, in the afternoon the girl tried to charge us 185 for 3 hours, We Hated this place....And our lake view was the woods....The kids play area was circuit 1970, just BAAAAD....cabin was dirty and there were ants in the tubs..

This was a very nice park, It was just my Husband and I and we went to Kentucky to ride our new Harley Davidson Motorcycle and take in the beautiful Kentucky scenery. We enjoyed our stay at the Barren River Lake State Resort Park. There is so much that they offer and we will be brining the kids back with us next time we visit. It would have been nice if they offered indoor swimming facilities but they have just about everything else.

Our family of 4 decided to go here for our summer vacation. We rented a Water View Cabin. We were very impressed with the cabin. Big bedrooms, nice size bathrooms, clean kitchen, huge living/dining room w/fireplace. Even had two decks. One screened in & covered, the other open. All employees were very nice & professional. The lake was warm & not crowded with power boats. We went horseback riding & the kids loved it. The lodge offers a breakfast buffet. Good food. Our last day we drove to Mammoth Cave National Park & did a small cave tour. Very interesting & well worth it.

I can't rave about this one since the old rustic stone and timber lodges built in the 1930s by the CCC are my favorites in the Kentucky Parks System (this one was built in th 70s), there is LOTS to do at this state park... Bowling Green is nearby; Hodgenville and the "Lincoln Highway" (his birthplace and boyhood home) are a short drive away, and the park itself offers everything from shuffleboard and arcade games to water sports in both pool and lake to quiet reading in the "crow's nest" or daydreaming from the lakeview balcony. One thing no one's mentioned, in addition to the horseback riding (great fun!), is the paved 2.5 mile bike path! I saw folks mostly walking this, but actually bought a bike ten miles from the lodge on the extreme cheap and then left it there for the next person to use. I LOVE cycling but won't do it in traffic, so this winding path that goes along a creek, into the woods, and along the fields of stabled horses was a real treat...

But darn; now I wish I'd ordered the Hot Brown!
