Marion, KY is a nice small town. Emphasis on small. No motels. We needed to travel there due to a death in the family. Expecting to procure lodging in a nearby town, we researched the web and were surprised to find several B&Bs in Marion. We settled on Grace House and called them.
We reached an answering machine and not expecting much we left a brief callback message.
Ten minutes later Steve, the owner/Manager, returned our call saying he was bidding goodbye to departing guests and missed the call.
Explaining our need was soon and short term, Steve said there was one room left due to others attending the same funeral. When asked about other places available he gave that info and also told us about a hunters lodging available with minimal facilities he and his wife owned.
We took him up on the offer and he provided lodging for seven family members total.
We stayed in the B&B Lighthouse Room. Large, clean, quiet and well equipped. Sufficient parking, front door driveway, combination keypad door for late access.
Our choice of breakfast the next morning was made-from-scratch pancakes, wide range of syrups, bacon and sausage, juice and plenty of coffee. Other choices were available. Steve was in the well equipped kitchen cooking and chatting with us while we were drinking coffee, seated in the large adjoining dining room. Enjoyed the conversation as much as the breakfast.
This is a family run lodging in a large house with a 5 bedroom wing. There is a large, open gathering room with TV, pool table and walkout deck downstairs. The kids are grown and Steve is retired. His wife Karen still works and is also active in the B&B operation. They are warm and friendly, proud of their family (check out the picture wall), and seem to know everyone in town. Steve's career was in local law enforcement so not really a stretch.
We recommend this place to others as short term lodging if passing through or on a short visit to Marion. You may have to ask for more towels or tell them about a bulb out in a lamp, but that stuff happens to us when we have guests at home. All of our needs were met and and our budget did not suffer.
