We came with a group of 21 all the kids are girls age 14 and 11ish. We stayed in the cottages @ the state park. You can stay at the lodge or the camp ground. We loved all the trails we went on. We did the x cave and had a great guide. At the lodge the check in desk was helpful and when we needed anything they were right on it
only problem we had was about 100 lady bugs in the cottage but we just threw them out the window not a deal breaker

My wife and I traveled to Carter Caves State Park the day after Valentine's Day to take advantage of an overnight stay / dinner / and Valentine Show package. The area had recently received around 4 inches of wet snow and the scenery was awesome with the snow clinging to the deciduous forest surrounding the Welcome Center & Lodge that make up the State Park. We arrived to check in around 3pm and hiked for about 2 hours starting once from the Welcome Center and later from the Lodge area. Great hikes in a winter wonderland. After the hikes we headed for the dinner show. The dinner was a fairly typical state park buffet where the food was good and plentiful followed by a desert of warm banana pudding and a strawberry graham cracker crisp that was delicious. The after dinner Valentine's show was a production of Lexington's Fantastical Theatricals which consisted of some skits and songs performed by a cast of four. The performers were eager and upbeat but the material provided them little to work with and the program came across as very amateurish and lame and we were glad when it was over. The Lewis Caveland Lodge is very basic but we found it clean and comfortable with a porch on the back overlooking the woods which were beautiful after the snow. A night at this lodge won't satisfy frill seekers or upscale travelers but offers a great value in an area where the outdoors is the attraction and not the room. We'll be back to do some cave tours another time.

Room Tip: Small in room coffee machine but no fridge or microwave so come prepared. Old style televisions (no flat screen) but good free wifi reception.

Thank You so much for your post. Yes the park is beautiful have a fresh fallen snow. We sure have had our share of the snow this year. The snow does just add a extra touch of beauty to the park. Appreciate the remarks on the lodge and the meals and the entertainment was something new we were trying this year and will work on for in the future.

Thanks again and we look forward to serving you again someday.

Its December and we stayed at the lodge to visit the caves.
The lodge rooms are retro motel style, but clean and functional.
The caves were great and the park overall looks to be a good choice in the summer as well.
The restaurant is limited, but adequate park food.

Room Tip: they look to be pretty much the same, Call to ask questions as they're very helpful.

As with all of the KY parks that we have visited, this is a nice place. The campground was packed but quiet. The cave tours were excellent. The haunted trail along the campground was very well done, and very crowded. There is nothing to do in the area around the park. But there is plenty to do in the park. Will definitely return here.

Really enjoyed our family vacation at Carter Caves State Park, KY! Great scenery, great trails! Lodge was nice, too! Would recommend for an affordable, family getaway. We will definitely return! The hiking trails were amazing with great rock formations and cave entrances. They even have multipurpose trails for biking and horses and horse stables. A great find!

Room Tip: All rooms are equivalent.
