“Big rock cabin great vacation”
Reviewed 23 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

My sister and I came from new York to witness the total solar eclipse. Big rock log cabin did not disappoint. We used it as our home base, Adding many side excursions . It was our favorite place to rest our bodies and souls.

It was great to have you at Big Rock and hope you will come back to Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park. They are truly wonders of Nature. I call them Kentucky's best kept secret.

The cabin was way more than we expected. The location of the cabin was super nice and the inside of the cabin was beautiful. This place is worth every penny. Highly recommended.

“Comfort, art and natural beauty”
Reviewed 23 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Five women friends spent five nights in this fine cabin. We were comfortable, secure and very happy there. The natural beauty of the immediate surroundings inspired us, and the quirky folk art that fills the cabin sparked interesting conversations. The common space is large and accommodating and includes a spacious wrap-around porch downstairs that made for wonderful gatherings.

Four of us slept in the two queen beds in the spacious loft — "the dorm," as we dubbed it. One feature that we particularly enjoyed was a small balcony overlooking the forest which had a screen door in addition to a wooden one. We slept with the door open and listened to owls at night and songbirds in the mornings. The upstairs bathtub, a large Whirlpool, is located in the same room as the beds, so there is no privacy in it. Those of us who wanted to use it needed to wait until everyone else was downstairs. There is, however, a private toilet in the loft.

Downstairs, there is a private bedroom and a separate, complete bathroom, including a tub with a shower. There was an additional sofa bed in the living room.

The cabin is not suitable for those who have difficulty climbing or who use a wheelchair; there are several steps up to the front porch, and more again to the loft.

When we are together we cook a lot, and the kitchen had everything we needed except a grater. A good supply of spices and herbs was on hand when we arrived. The cabin was comfortably clean. Some of us had cell service, some did not (no AT&T). The wi-fi was good and we used our computers for web searches and FaceTiming while we were there without problems.

This is lovely place, and I would definitely stay there again.

Thank you so much for staying at Big Rock. It warms my heart when someone enjoys the cabin and surrounds as much as I do. I know your point about the jet tub being off to one side of the loft. When I bought the cabin and finished the inside I grappled long and hard as to what to do with the tub. If I boxed it in it would cut up the wonderful openness of the loft so I just left it where it was and hoped folks would understand that was the only option.
Well, sounds like I have a grater to replace. Thanks for letting me know, those pesky kitchen utensils regularly find hiding places.
I hope you enjoyed your stay in Kentucky at our best kept secret, Red River Gorge, and will be back again. John

We had wanted to do more outdoor activities but rains kept us at the cabin so we enjoyed nature's beauty from the cover of the front porch due to the monsoon rains we did have a few hours one morning to hike down to a creek it's so peaceful in that area and we intend to stay again. Everything was great. WiFi was great due to we had no cell phone access (att does not work at all) so we kept in touch by WiFi

My wife and I stayed two nights at Big Rock Log Cabin while visiting Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. The cabin was immaculate!! Very, very clean and comfortable. Beautifully furnished and decorated!! The quality and build of the cabin are top notch. We always cook breakfast and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. The WiFi has a very strong and fast signal. This is a great place and a very convenient location.

“We and our dogs loved it!”
Reviewed 7 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the cabin with our two dogs. John was quick to answer all of our questions in advance of our stay. There was several inches of snow on the ground and long icicles on both the porch roof and the big rock ledge when we arrived, but the long driveway to the cabin was well-cleared. The inside of the cabin was clean, warm and inviting, filled with interesting art. The tv worked well so we were able to watch UK win another game. It was a short drive to take the dogs hiking at one of the gorge trails, which they loved! It was a bit treacherous getting to the trailhead for the Rock Bridge Loop in the snow, but luckily we had 4-wheel drive and made it fine. We cooked our dinners at the cabin both nights of our stay, and the kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, etc. There seemed to be a number of restaurants nearby to eat, but I think some are closed in the winter months. The campfire area was probably the highlight of this property. It was a perfect spot, providing shelter if needed and already set up with chairs around the fire. All-in-all, we loved the place, and hope to go back when it's warmer.
