Owner description: Owners Neil and Rachel bought a beautiful 30 acre farm near Versailles, Kentucky in Woodford County in 1997 and began planting grapes, berries, apples, and peaches in 1998. They named the farm Wildside Farm because of the wild sunflowers and coneflowers that grew in abundance. In addition, the name fit because the farm was initially certified organic until they learned that a minimum of amount of pesticides was needed to keep the fruits healthy. They still use minimal pesticides. Each year they planted more grapes until today they have 5 acres of grapes, two acres of fruit trees and 1.5 acres of berries.Welcome to Wildside Winery your winery near Lexington Kentucky, the airport, and Keeneland racetrack! Neil is the wine maker at Wildside Winery and he loves making new and interesting kinds of wine. These unusual wines are often tricky to make and time consuming. They are often made in small quantities and are usually from fresh local fruit. A short list of the interesting wines are our new Bourbon barrel red wine made with Cabernet, peach mead, fresh strawberry, hard cider, and many other delicious wines. Another special wine is our Port wine. It's aged in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. Went for a wedding, tried some wines, vines are young, wine tends to the sweet but a fun way to spend an afternoon, bottles are around $10 so inexpensive as well.

Thanks for the review. I know its hard to find the time during a wedding to fully explore all of our twenty plus wines. Many times during a wedding, a guest tries one or two at random and assumes that they represent the entire range of our offering. We do have a large selection of dry wines: Two dry white wines, Chardonnay, and our popular Seyval Blanc. Our dry red wine selection starting with the lighter body and moving up to heavier and more tannins are: Norton, Duet (blend), Chambourcin, Chambourcin Reserve, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (quite different from '08), Black Barrel Reserve (Cab blend aged in a bourbon barrel), and Cabernet Franc. All of the above wines are fully dry with 0% residual sugar.

Nine acres of our 11 acres of vines are between 8-15 years old which is not generally considered young. We do plant a few acres that are a one to 8 years old so maybe the reviewer noticed those.

Thank you and I hope you can make it back to try some more of our wines.

I've been here before with my first husband. It is a very nice tasting room and now they have recently added a deck to go outside on and enjoy your newly purchased bottle.

Not only do my husband and I love to go to the events at Wildside, we love their wines. Small winery, lots of personality. Now they are doing outdoor events! Even more fun! Family owned and operated, so you are dealing with the passionate people who love what they are doing and want to share. Stop in for a tasting or book your event. You won't be disappointed at the people, place, or beautiful scenery!

Thanks for the great review! I'm glad you like our events. Check our our Mother's day wine dinner and our biggest and best party: Caribbean Blues and Barbeque on May 26th. This will be featuring Ben Brown's Caribbean Blues Band, which is an amazing amount of fun.

Thanks for the great review! We are very proud of our fruit wines. Most are made from 100% fresh local fruit. These are made from Kentucky fruit: Blackberry, Blueberry, Strawberry, Peach mead, black walnut (I know its a nut not a fruit) with nothing else but the fruit. In other words its not a flavored wine it is a wine made entirely from that fruit with TONS of flavor. We call them serious fruit wines made with the same care and love as our dry wines. We have several fruit wines with fruit from other states for variety, and because our customers love them: Cherry, Cranberry, and Pomegranate.
