“An excellent showing for adults and learning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

This was one of the best "Subject Museums" we have visited in many years. It's showing was directed to the history of Louisiana and they did an exceptionally good job of doing this. The displays were both well done and educational - and seemed to be directed to adults and mature young people. The displays covered politics, economics and history - including the Civil War. We are not History Buffs, but we really enjoyed spending several hours moving from display to display. They did a great job.

“Great place to take a group of kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

The displays were amazing. After reading the literature that the museum forwarded me it was discussed with the students that would visit. Students were given particular sections of the museum to visit first according to the questions that were provided by the museum. They enjoyed looking for the particular points of interest and we later discussed all of their findings. It was awesome.

“One of the best museums around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

This self guided museum is one of the best. It houses a full size shrimp boat and a civil war era submarine, Mardi Gras costumes and all the music of Louisiana, information on Poverty Point and a Huey Long exhibit. It will explain the difference between Cajun and Creole, North and South Louisiana, and slavery and sharecropping. Plus there is always a rotating exhibit on the third floor. I liked it better when the admission was free but it's still a bargain for the price. A good place to spend a rainy Saturday or a hot and humid summer afternoon.

“Go look at Louisiana culture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

We visited the museum on June 11th. There is a free parking lot on 702 N. River Road across the Capitol Visitor Center. There are 2 levels; the first level is about the river, famous people and the history of the state. The second level about Louisiana Culture.

“Great Place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

If you're in the area, this is a good way to spend the day. Lots of old buildings to tour and some excellent old artifacts. A lot of history here and some friendly helpful people to tell you all about it and answer questions.
