“Beautiful setting and comprehensive fitness facilities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2013

Overall a good experience at this hotel for an overnight business trip.

Good: Check in/out swift, parking plentiful, breakfast hot and good quality. The main point in this resorts favour is the fitness programme with free classes such as spin, body pump and aqua aerobics etc. Steam room, sauna also available if you so wish. Room was large with very comfortable bed and desk/dressing table.

Bad: Security in room lodges - My room was in a lodge containing three separate units but unfortunately there was no lock on the external door which meant that it was open overnight. Inside the room there was only one rather inadequate door lock with no chain. For a female travelling alone I do not think that this is adeqaute and I have noted my complaint to the duty manager. The only other point was slightly dodgy plumbing in shower which wouldnt drain properly.

I would return to this resort but I do hope the night manager actions the security issue and responds accordingly.

Room Tip: If female travelling alone request a room close to main reception as lighting in the resort is quite...

We were looking for a quick one-night stay, arriving late and leaving fairly early the next day. Having checked the usual Premier Inns etc. at over 60 pounds with no breakfast we found this hotel at £55 for the two of us including breakfast and decided to give it a try. We were met late at night by a very friendly and helpful member of staff who had stayed up late to check us in and who took us right to our room, which was quite small but very clean and well decorated and perfectly adequate for our needs. Bed was a bit too firm for my bad back but my wife thought it okay.
Lovely quiet night's sleep with no disturbance or traffic noise and breakfast was buffet style and perfectly adequate with eggs freshly cooked to order and a nice panoramic view over the golf course plus very pleasant waiting staff. Would not spend a whole week here but very nice and good value for a night or two.

Room Tip: Check the hotel deals websites then phone the hotel direct to see which can give you the best price...

Love the setting, great views, amazing gym facilities, reasonably priced meals and bar, free wifi, free parking, all the sports are free. For the price thought this was an amazing venue. Was here all week this week for work and i'm back again next week. Staff were great, any queries or problems dealt with instantly and people were only too keen to help. Would defiantly recommend again and I'm happy to be coming back. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating, was as stated rooms are not the big modern airy rooms of some newer hotels. But do not let this put you off, the room is small but functional, has a good shower, a wardrobe a desk everything you could need, I just didn't want people to expect big glamorous rooms and be disappointed. Think small and functional in a wooden chalet. But i enjoyed it. For gym bunnies there is stacks of cardio stuff, loads of free weights and a really good fully set of cybex machines including a functional cable center!

Room Tip: Just think a small basic functional room in a wooden block and then you wont be disappointed. Don...

Stopped here for just one light, but found it to better than expected. The room was in a row of buildings 100 yars from the reception. It was adequate for my needs, having room to store my stuff, a desk to work on, free wifi with an average signal strength and a decent shower.

Food is served in the main bar area, and while not haut cuisine, is certainly ok. I had a pizza which filled a gap and was ok value at under £8. I had a late check in but was offered free use of the pool.......not bad considering the price paid via late rooms. Breakfast the next morning was ok too...it was a buffet affair, but the egs were cooked to order and sausage, bacon, etc were decent quality.

The place doesnt have a lot of atmosphere and is more gear ed towards golfers, bit for anyone working away on business, its not too bad at all

Stayed here for a weekend with family. Room very small, 'double' bed smaller than average and not very comfortable. The decor was shabby and the room needed repainting and renovating. Gym, pool were fine but overall expected more for the price. Would not go back.

This awful so-called hotel is marketing itself as a spa retreat and makes much of its golf-resort cachet.
The reality is that the hotel part consists of some wooden shacks with grotty, poorly maintained, pokey rooms that have the air and quality of a backpacker's hostel. These shacks are situated several hundred feet distant from the reception building, making a mockery of a cosy spa weekend, requiring one to go outside into the cold to reach the 'accommodation'. The main building contains a poorly-refurbished restaurant and bar area, which is chiefly the golf-clubhouse, and the 'spa'. The skin therapy and massage part is run 'independently' from the hotel so the hotel has no apparent control over bookings or, indeed, if this spa part is open. We were denied such treatment because of this. At least the small, ageing, swimming pool is passable and has a sauna, steam room and and hot tub. The entire hotel is poorly run, the receptionist was ill-informed as to the spa's opening times, and the inexperienced manager was neither helpful, polite nor sympathetic towards justifiably disgruntled guests. It seems his strategy with complaints from guests is to threaten police action!
A least the food was acceptable and the waiter was helpful.

Room Tip: Do not stay here!

The setting for this hotel is lovely and staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It was pricey and I would have expected more from the accommodation.
We had a ground floor room which overlooked the golf course. The room was clean, but very dated, decor shabby and the bed had a big dip in the middle. The heating is a not great especially in the bathroom where there was a wall mounted electric heater that took ages to warm the room up but blew very uncomfortably directly down the back of my neck when standing at the wash basin. In the main bedroom you have to put the tag on the keyring into a slot by the heater to get it started. I was slightly concerned about this as the main doorkey (a proper key for a deadlock) was still attached to it. If we'd needed to get out of the room in an emergency I'm not sure we'd have remembered where the key was!
What we hadn't bargained for was the lack of soundproofing in the wooden lodges. We'd just got settled for the night when our upstairs neighbours came in. They weren't especially rowdy but we heard every footstep and it sounded just like a herd of elephants had checked in!
Despite that once we got to sleep we slept really well and had a fab breakfast the next morning.
We didn't use the leisure facilities, but everything in the main block looked really nice.
If I was staying for more than one night I'd definitely upgrade to a suite on the first floor for space, noise control, views and a bit more privacy - it was a bit disconcerting to draw the curtains and find myself virtually nose to nose with half a dozen people on the putting green!
I wouldn't stay here again as there is much better value to be had elsewhere.

Room Tip: A suite doesn't cost much more and would definitely have been worth the investment.
