My Family And I Traveled Into Cajun Country For The First Time To Attend Festival International de Louisiane, In Lafayette And Were Looking For Accommodations That Were Off The Beaten Path, And Boy, Did We Ever Find It In T'Frere's!
Our L'il Baby Is Fifteen Months Old, And Had Thrown A Fit Twice In The Not So Distant Drive From New Orleans, So We Stopped Along The Way In Morgan City To Give Her A Break And Stretch Her Legs Along The Wharfs Of That Inland Shrimping Town, Which Of Course Made Us Late For The Festive Check In That Pat And Maugie Throw In The Afternoons, Complete With Mint Juleps(Which By The Time We Arrived, Were Desperately In Order)!
So We Pulled In A Little Bummed, Knowing That We Had Already Missed This Anticipated Event, But There To Save Our Busted Plans Was Leah! Leah Was So Warm, Welcoming And Hospitable From The Moment We Stepped Up Onto The Porch Until We Tore Ourselves Away Several Days Later, And Is The Fifth Star In This Review!
This Bed And Breakfast Is Not For Everyone, As One Can Deduce From The Mixed Bag Of Love It Or Not Reviews Below, But For Us, It Was Just What We Were Looking For, And We Were So Happy We Chose This Gramma's Garish Wonderland That Harkens Back To The Segregated Sixties And Seventies South Of My Youth.
Say What You Will, But This Place Is An Unapologetic Time Machine, And For What It's Worth, We Loved It!!
There Are Countless Nick~Nacks All Stored In An Endless Array Of Appropriate Places, Half Of Which Appeared To Be Dust Free, And The Other Half Yearning To Be Ignored, And We Lingered And Lolled About In It For Sometime Before Ascending The Steep Steps To The Garden Room, Which Is Just As True As The Age That Spawned It.
You *Have* To Stay Here, For It's Bathroom Is Detached, And Subsequently Has A Door That Allows You The Once In A Lifetime Opportunity To Sit Enthroned Open Aired, With Birds Singing, To On Coming Traffic From Down The Camelia Road, A King Of The World Moment, At The Cost Of A Day, I Swear!
Gawdy Bless Americey, Aaaaaaiiiiiieeeeee!!
But What Will Forever Enshrine This Visit To T'Frere's In The Pantheon Of Journeys I Have Taken, Both Great And Small, Is The Effort Put Forth To Take You Somewhere, Or Some Place In Time, Or An Idealized Remembrance Of Pat And Maugie's Hubris, A Journey That I Would Gladly Take Again, If For No Other Reason Than To Be Served On Intentionally Bumpy Porcelain Table Ware, As Perfectly Preserved As The Thick, Thoughtful Fig Jam From Some Alleged Place In The Yard; A Yard Filled With Tar Baby Boys On Sugar Kettles And Tire Swings, Resting And Hanging About, Trying Themselves To Ascertain How Long It's Been Since No One Cared About Time, Or So It Seems.
What Can Not Be Preserved In This Twilight Zone However, Is Your Anonymity, And If You Enjoy Being Overlooked, Carry On My Friend For This Is Family Focused, Like A Laser Which Is Warm And Red; As Red As The Crushed Velvet Couches Underneath The Crocheted Catch~Alls' Adorning The Path The Proprietor Will Take On Her Way To Your Table At Eight A.M., In Her Silky Red Pajamas, With Bowls Of Red Beans And Biscuits, And This Red Is True Blue, Which If You Are Unprepared For Will Leave You Longing For The Wireless Comfort Of Your Electronic Womb, But Either Way, You'll Be In A Mother's Hand.
And You Will Pay For It, One Way Or Another, So Do Not Attempt To Hide Yourself Away Here, Because There Will Always Be Room For More!
If It Is Intimacy You Do Intend, In Contrast, Your Contentment Will Know No Boundaries, And You May Find Yourself Facebooking Events Later On, To Thrift Store Buy Outs And Sleep Overs So Your Fam And Friends Can Sing Raucous Rounds About 'Popping Tags' On An Out Of Tune Piano, Substituting The Following Lyrics For Impromptu Shouts Of, 'Living Like Pat And Maugie!'
I Could Go On, Obviously, But I Think I've Proven My Point. This Place, These People . . . Are Real, And Their Virtue Is Far From Virtual! Hat's Off Y'All!!
