T'Frere's Bed & Breakfast

My Family And I Traveled Into Cajun Country For The First Time To Attend Festival International de Louisiane, In Lafayette And Were Looking For Accommodations That Were Off The Beaten Path, And Boy, Did We Ever Find It In T'Frere's!

Our L'il Baby Is Fifteen Months Old, And Had Thrown A Fit Twice In The Not So Distant Drive From New Orleans, So We Stopped Along The Way In Morgan City To Give Her A Break And Stretch Her Legs Along The Wharfs Of That Inland Shrimping Town, Which Of Course Made Us Late For The Festive Check In That Pat And Maugie Throw In The Afternoons, Complete With Mint Juleps(Which By The Time We Arrived, Were Desperately In Order)!

So We Pulled In A Little Bummed, Knowing That We Had Already Missed This Anticipated Event, But There To Save Our Busted Plans Was Leah! Leah Was So Warm, Welcoming And Hospitable From The Moment We Stepped Up Onto The Porch Until We Tore Ourselves Away Several Days Later, And Is The Fifth Star In This Review!

This Bed And Breakfast Is Not For Everyone, As One Can Deduce From The Mixed Bag Of Love It Or Not Reviews Below, But For Us, It Was Just What We Were Looking For, And We Were So Happy We Chose This Gramma's Garish Wonderland That Harkens Back To The Segregated Sixties And Seventies South Of My Youth.

Say What You Will, But This Place Is An Unapologetic Time Machine, And For What It's Worth, We Loved It!!

There Are Countless Nick~Nacks All Stored In An Endless Array Of Appropriate Places, Half Of Which Appeared To Be Dust Free, And The Other Half Yearning To Be Ignored, And We Lingered And Lolled About In It For Sometime Before Ascending The Steep Steps To The Garden Room, Which Is Just As True As The Age That Spawned It.

You *Have* To Stay Here, For It's Bathroom Is Detached, And Subsequently Has A Door That Allows You The Once In A Lifetime Opportunity To Sit Enthroned Open Aired, With Birds Singing, To On Coming Traffic From Down The Camelia Road, A King Of The World Moment, At The Cost Of A Day, I Swear!

Gawdy Bless Americey, Aaaaaaiiiiiieeeeee!!

But What Will Forever Enshrine This Visit To T'Frere's In The Pantheon Of Journeys I Have Taken, Both Great And Small, Is The Effort Put Forth To Take You Somewhere, Or Some Place In Time, Or An Idealized Remembrance Of Pat And Maugie's Hubris, A Journey That I Would Gladly Take Again, If For No Other Reason Than To Be Served On Intentionally Bumpy Porcelain Table Ware, As Perfectly Preserved As The Thick, Thoughtful Fig Jam From Some Alleged Place In The Yard; A Yard Filled With Tar Baby Boys On Sugar Kettles And Tire Swings, Resting And Hanging About, Trying Themselves To Ascertain How Long It's Been Since No One Cared About Time, Or So It Seems.

What Can Not Be Preserved In This Twilight Zone However, Is Your Anonymity, And If You Enjoy Being Overlooked, Carry On My Friend For This Is Family Focused, Like A Laser Which Is Warm And Red; As Red As The Crushed Velvet Couches Underneath The Crocheted Catch~Alls' Adorning The Path The Proprietor Will Take On Her Way To Your Table At Eight A.M., In Her Silky Red Pajamas, With Bowls Of Red Beans And Biscuits, And This Red Is True Blue, Which If You Are Unprepared For Will Leave You Longing For The Wireless Comfort Of Your Electronic Womb, But Either Way, You'll Be In A Mother's Hand.

And You Will Pay For It, One Way Or Another, So Do Not Attempt To Hide Yourself Away Here, Because There Will Always Be Room For More!

If It Is Intimacy You Do Intend, In Contrast, Your Contentment Will Know No Boundaries, And You May Find Yourself Facebooking Events Later On, To Thrift Store Buy Outs And Sleep Overs So Your Fam And Friends Can Sing Raucous Rounds About 'Popping Tags' On An Out Of Tune Piano, Substituting The Following Lyrics For Impromptu Shouts Of, 'Living Like Pat And Maugie!'

I Could Go On, Obviously, But I Think I've Proven My Point. This Place, These People . . . Are Real, And Their Virtue Is Far From Virtual! Hat's Off Y'All!!

Love,
The Family Tree

Great location, beautiful house, comfortable rooms, and a stellar breakfast every morning. The story is that the first person to be served breakfast said "Ooh la la!" and the name remains the same every morning. You will start your day with fresh fruit, eggs in a quiche or another interesting way, perhaps a fried tomato, baked sweet potato slice with pecans, potatoes or grits, and the list goes in and on. It was fabulous. A perfect place to stay to explore this interesting part of the country. We visited for two nights, May 8 and 9, 2013.

My best friend and our girls stayed at T'Freres because all the hotels were booked. I love B&B's and from now on, most likely that is where I will choose to stay when out of town. Its home away from home. The ghost of Amelia will be talked about for the rest of our days. Had a great time with Pat and Maugie. Stacey is fantastic in the kitchen and that yummie fruit water drink was so refreshing. Thanks for the hospitality and when I return to Lafayette this is where I will lay my head. Thanks again..

We enjoyed our stay at T'Frere's. This older home has probably seen better days, but overall, it was charming. The couple who own and operate the B&B are delightful and very helpful. They shared all kinds of ideas/suggestions on where to eat and what to do in the area. We enjoyed the refreshing afternoon tea julip and crab appetizer served in the sunporch. T'Frere's truly made our trip to Cajun country an amazing experience.

We arrived on Wednesday, April 30,2013 and stayed 3 nights. I would highly recommend this B&B. It has a good central location for exploring the wonderful world of the Louisiana cajuns, a warm fun loving crowd if ever there was one! The breakfasts were truly remarkable and the staff that Maugie and Pat have are helpful and friendly, always eager to help in any way.

Room Tip: We really enjoyed the Fais do do room.

We just stayed at T'Frere's B & B for 2 nights and we thought it was a good value. Terrific hospitality and over the top breakfasts made all the difference. Nothing fancy -- just very down home and comfy. John even played his accordion for us at breakfast! Thanks to the entire family there at T'Frere's for introducing us to Cajun country!

We read about T'Freres in another Trip Advisor write up and it worked out that we were in the area. We called ahead that day and were lucky that a room was available.

This is a nice little B&B located outside of Lafayette. The accommodations are fine in a cute sort of way but the real attractions are the Inn keepers, Margie and her husband. We arrived and the first thing she did was to sit us down with a cool drink and introduce us to the other guests. She is a real hoot and as nice as can be. She knows everyone in the area and was full of helpful suggestions about restaurants and places to visit. In fact, she was able to get us a room for the next night along our trip which we were told was booked.

We had our choice of rooms and decided on one not in the main building. It was great and even had a complimentary stocked refrigerator.

And to top things off, the breakfast the next morning was terrific.
