“Quirky, friendly good B & B”

I would definitely recommend t'Frere's - the owners are incredibly welcoming and you get a genuinely local flavour. We really enjoyed the tea juleps and crab croustardes in the early evening and it was great to get so many local recommendations. The "Ooh La La breakfasts" are incredibly filling and really memorable.
Our room was upstairs in the main house and very comfortable. The separate bathroom was absolutely fine with a good shower.
The position of the B & B is not great - it is near quite a busy road junction, so we experienced some early morning traffic noise and you need to drive everywhere for anything - normal in the USA, but less usual for Europeans.
Overall a great place to stay for exploring Cajun country and a unique experience.

Room Tip: We were in the Garden Room - a great room, but its position (upstairs, road side) means it does get...

Very enjoyable time here. Building and Garconiere very well done. Breakfast outstanding. Very, very friendly inn-keepers. Ok location. With GPS easy to find. Don't visit Lafayette on a Monday as most things closed.

Would definitely return.

In many ways, a typical, old style B and B, decorated in period, comfortable, but not fancy. What sets it apart is the cajun hospitality, freindliness of entire staff. You feel very welcome. The owners and staff are quick to help inform about the area, food choices, history, or anything else you need. Customer refrigerator always stocked with wine, beer, soft drinks. Brandy always at the ready in the parlor. Breakfast is billed as one of highlights of the day.......different every day. It is a highlight, mostly for the company and conversation, less so for the breakfast.

Overall, i don' t think you could find a more friendly, helpful place, convenient to most things to do in Lafayette. This one is easy to reccommend........

Room Tip: Stayed in garden room.....good spot, quiet, private bath

We have stayed at numerous B&Bs throughout the country and feel well qualified to urge you to disregard the very few negative reviews of T'Frere's. Those folks missed the point. T'Frere's is a Cajun country gem and a totally unique experience, unlike any other B&Bs we've also enjoyed. Our two nights in late April were a highlight of our week exploring the history, culture, scenery and food of this fascinating region. The hospitality of innkeepers Pat and Maugie, ably supported by manager Leah, are what make it so special. From the welcoming afternoon T'juleps and appetizers to the marvelous "oooh la la breakfasts," they are charming hosts who treat their guests to entertaining and informative personal stories, and lucky us, even a Cajun song performed by Pat and Maugie's accordion-playing son John. (John is the owner of a popular swamp-boat tour that can be booked through the inn.) A bonus, Pat and Maugie were long-time owners of several still-popular local Cajun restaurants so their recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were right on. The inn itself is a lovely 1880s-era home with a beautiful parlor, dining room, porch and guest rooms. Our less expensive Mardi Gras room in the add-on section of the main house was perfectly alright for our needs. T'Frere's is a one-of-a-kind delight and we hope to return.

T'Frere's B&B is a perfect home base from which to experience cajun country. Pat, Maugie and their son, John, are "the real deal" - Mom, Pop, and youngest son of a big-hearted (and big!) cajun family. We felt genuinely welcomed by Pat and Maugie and enjoyed our stay in the comfortable Mary room. Every morning we heard Maugie's call of "ooh la la!" before Pat and John presented and described the decadent and yummy breakfast! And every evening we enjoyed a refreshing cocktail, appetizers, and great recommendations for dinner followed by Maugie making our reservations, if needed. The Mary room is on the front of the house so we did experience some street noise but it never kept us awake at night. All in all, a delightful stay. Ooh la la!

An idiosyncratic b&b. We stayed in the separate building off the main house, which we enjoyed. The breakfasts were very odd by English standards - the final morning included pancakes with pudding fillings! The hosts are very welcoming and helpful - we found Champagne's swamp tour through them, which was simply brilliant. Only thing we found was that it was tricky getting a cab into town (very strange cab drivers in Lafayette!), and ideally I would have liked the location to be a little nearer evening entertainment.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Fais Do Do room in the separate building. Think I would choose one of those rooms a...

My Family And I Traveled Into Cajun Country For The First Time To Attend Festival International de Louisiane, In Lafayette And Were Looking For Accommodations That Were Off The Beaten Path, And Boy, Did We Ever Find It In T'Frere's!

Our L'il Baby Is Fifteen Months Old, And Had Thrown A Fit Twice In The Not So Distant Drive From New Orleans, So We Stopped Along The Way In Morgan City To Give Her A Break And Stretch Her Legs Along The Wharfs Of That Inland Shrimping Town, Which Of Course Made Us Late For The Festive Check In That Pat And Maugie Throw In The Afternoons, Complete With Mint Juleps(Which By The Time We Arrived, Were Desperately In Order)!

So We Pulled In A Little Bummed, Knowing That We Had Already Missed This Anticipated Event, But There To Save Our Busted Plans Was Leah! Leah Was So Warm, Welcoming And Hospitable From The Moment We Stepped Up Onto The Porch Until We Tore Ourselves Away Several Days Later, And Is The Fifth Star In This Review!

This Bed And Breakfast Is Not For Everyone, As One Can Deduce From The Mixed Bag Of Love It Or Not Reviews Below, But For Us, It Was Just What We Were Looking For, And We Were So Happy We Chose This Gramma's Garish Wonderland That Harkens Back To The Segregated Sixties And Seventies South Of My Youth.

Say What You Will, But This Place Is An Unapologetic Time Machine, And For What It's Worth, We Loved It!!

There Are Countless Nick~Nacks All Stored In An Endless Array Of Appropriate Places, Half Of Which Appeared To Be Dust Free, And The Other Half Yearning To Be Ignored, And We Lingered And Lolled About In It For Sometime Before Ascending The Steep Steps To The Garden Room, Which Is Just As True As The Age That Spawned It.

You *Have* To Stay Here, For It's Bathroom Is Detached, And Subsequently Has A Door That Allows You The Once In A Lifetime Opportunity To Sit Enthroned Open Aired, With Birds Singing, To On Coming Traffic From Down The Camelia Road, A King Of The World Moment, At The Cost Of A Day, I Swear!

Gawdy Bless Americey, Aaaaaaiiiiiieeeeee!!

But What Will Forever Enshrine This Visit To T'Frere's In The Pantheon Of Journeys I Have Taken, Both Great And Small, Is The Effort Put Forth To Take You Somewhere, Or Some Place In Time, Or An Idealized Remembrance Of Pat And Maugie's Hubris, A Journey That I Would Gladly Take Again, If For No Other Reason Than To Be Served On Intentionally Bumpy Porcelain Table Ware, As Perfectly Preserved As The Thick, Thoughtful Fig Jam From Some Alleged Place In The Yard; A Yard Filled With Tar Baby Boys On Sugar Kettles And Tire Swings, Resting And Hanging About, Trying Themselves To Ascertain How Long It's Been Since No One Cared About Time, Or So It Seems.

What Can Not Be Preserved In This Twilight Zone However, Is Your Anonymity, And If You Enjoy Being Overlooked, Carry On My Friend For This Is Family Focused, Like A Laser Which Is Warm And Red; As Red As The Crushed Velvet Couches Underneath The Crocheted Catch~Alls' Adorning The Path The Proprietor Will Take On Her Way To Your Table At Eight A.M., In Her Silky Red Pajamas, With Bowls Of Red Beans And Biscuits, And This Red Is True Blue, Which If You Are Unprepared For Will Leave You Longing For The Wireless Comfort Of Your Electronic Womb, But Either Way, You'll Be In A Mother's Hand.

And You Will Pay For It, One Way Or Another, So Do Not Attempt To Hide Yourself Away Here, Because There Will Always Be Room For More!

If It Is Intimacy You Do Intend, In Contrast, Your Contentment Will Know No Boundaries, And You May Find Yourself Facebooking Events Later On, To Thrift Store Buy Outs And Sleep Overs So Your Fam And Friends Can Sing Raucous Rounds About 'Popping Tags' On An Out Of Tune Piano, Substituting The Following Lyrics For Impromptu Shouts Of, 'Living Like Pat And Maugie!'

I Could Go On, Obviously, But I Think I've Proven My Point. This Place, These People . . . Are Real, And Their Virtue Is Far From Virtual! Hat's Off Y'All!!

Love,
The Family Tree
