Who would ever know how alive a swamp is, teaming with animal and bird life. Kim is incredibly knowledgeable about the Atchafalaya and its flora and fauna. It is an educational insight into how beautiful South Louisiana really is. THe best 3 hours one can spend. Highly recommended.

Simply spectacular, up close & personal! The Voohries' make your swamp tour experience very special, & can tailor it for your wants & needs. It's about a 3-hour tour of nature @ it's best - birds nesting with babies, swamp flowers - fauna & flora galore, not to mention 'gators here & there, bug & such, even the Asian carp that can jump & land in your boat - seriously! We had a blast! We saw it all & loved it all! Mr. Voorhies & son Kim are the best! They know every turn, every bend - they called back & forth from our 2-boat tour letting us know when they saw creatures &/or some unusual or beautiful plant. It's not their 1st rodeo! They took us right up to baby birds nesting high in the cypress tree tops, where you can hear the babies chirping with the parents. They know right where what you really want to see is & they take you there! Very personable & knowledgeable! We saw a lot, learned a lot, & had a lot of fun! We highly recommended this, & will be going again soon! [Also, stay @ their B & B in Lafayette - Bois Des Chenes - quaint, comfortable, friendly, & Mrs. Voohries makes the best French toast from French bread breakfast with all the trimming - yum! And, another son has the Breaux Bridge Antique Mall, where not only he, his mother, & other vendors have their ware, but Carl's sister Lorelei also has some of her handsome hand-made horse hair bracelets & key rings on display for purchase!] This whole family rocks! Love 'em all!

We did the trip with Coerte on Monday 19th May. The short exhibition at the visitor centre is good and this is where we met Coerte, he knows the swamp area extremely well and took us to spots where we saw Aligator and jumping Carp. Some of the guests on the trip had been staying with Coerte at his bed and breakfast and we may have done that too but didn't see that advertised. Coerte was enternaining and obviously loves what he is doing and the swamp. We took a couple of stops where the engine was turned off and we just sat and listened to nature. We didn't know what to expect and my wife was concerned as 'Swamp' conjures up a certain image, no need to worry its a fantastic experience and a 'must do' if you are anywhere close.

The highlight of our 2-week trip to Louisiana fell on the second to last day: a three hour swamp tour filled with great information, amazing sights and an astonishing amount of animals. Mr Voorhies and his son Kim picked us up in the Atchafalaya Welcome Center at exit 121 on the I-10. To our surprise we unexpectedly met friends from Belgium in the Center and due to a cancellation in our tour they were able to join us.
The boats we used comfortably seated six and Kim was our guide for the morning. What a guide he was. He entertained us with his impressive knowledge of the fauna and flora in the swamp and with stories of his hunts for ducks and impressive photographs. Kim clearly showed a strong relation with the region's nature and its preservation when we saw some people in an airboat, when he showed us hunting cabins built in trees or when he picked up garbage from the water. It showed how much he cared.
We took loads of amazing pictures in the swamp: of the cypress forests, of ospreys, tree frogs, fishing spiders, alligators, spoonbills, several species of ibis... this is a photographers dream. Our guides took the time to show us the beautiful spots and regale us with loads of information.
If you have the time, be sure to call and take the tour. It is absolutely magnificent. If you don't have the time, I suggest you make some, because it is very much worth it.
