“Easter break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

We booked this hotel because of an offer in a magazine, then read some negative reviews on tripadvisor but can say we had a wonderful stay. The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and the food was excellant.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Basingstoke Country Hotel over the Easter Weekend and I am glad that you were able to experience the great hospitality that more and more people are writing reviews about.

We really appreciate your review and whilst we don't always enjoy reading the negative reviews that you refer to in the email, we benefit from them, striving to learn from trends and the overall balance of feedback.

I hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Used the Hotel as we were visiting the leather bottle restaurant down the road. Very helpful and polite staff. Used the pool in the morning for a swim that was very nice. Only paid £43 for room only, so was very happy.

The price we paid a a special offer via Puma hotels ,we were promised 2 treatments but my mistake ,andwe could not get them as they were fully booked ,my suggestion, as I was asked for a time for dinner reservations I feel i should have been made fully aware that we had to book treatments at the same time.
Some of the facilities in the hotel need to be updated e.g. proper mixer taps in the room.the dining room looked dated and lacked atmosphere.
Some of the food was OK but not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.
They certainy know how to charge for extras £5.95 + sevice for a cup of tea and coffee also the charged £16 + for 2 people for scones and Jam (only 4 scones.)
On the plus side the staff were great and most helpful
Never used thepool because of no treatments

Not best short break we have had in fact a bit dissapointing

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback. I have sent you a message to establish contact as it sounds as if we charged you for your tea and coffee which is included when you have afternoon tea.

We are putting revisions to the spa booking confirmation and process following your visit and I am grateful to you for sharing your experience and I am sorry that you found the break disappointing.

I hope to be in contact with you shortly and perhaps encourage you to return in the future.

Recently stayed overnight as part of an extended family group. The rooms, whilst quite small, were very clean and had all the usual requirements - tea/coffee equipment, safe, hair dryer. The leisure facilities were good, did not try the jacuzzi as it is set outdoors. Fair amount of kit in the gym. Dinner in the restaurant was very nice, we were a party of eleven and each of us enjoyed our meal. The staff dealt very well with a family member who needs a gluten free diet and another who is vegetarian. Square table set up for us which was a nice touch. Breakfast was good too. I would happily stay here again.

We have just had a 3 day break here & on the whole it was very pleasant. The food in the brasserie is very good but the service was a little slow although there seemed to be plenty of staff. The rooms were a little dated but perfectly acceptable. The staff & management were excellent & couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. We would certainly visit this hotel again.

Thank you for your very positive review, I am glad to see that you enjoyed your stay.

It's great that you found some of the hidden gems of North Hampshire to explore and that the Basingstoke Country Hotel was a good base for you to explore 2 of the great local National Trust properties.

We hope that you will return and see how the hotel continues to improve.

We satayed at this hotel last week for a weekend break. Hotel is excellent. Staff are very friendly and service was impeccable. The food in the restaurant was extremely good and the service we had there again was superb. The head waiter and indeed all the staff worked really hard and ensured that the high standards were kept. The room was good and perfectly clean. The breakfast was again excellent. the hotel is ideally located for Basingstoke and is only about 30 minute drive to Winchester and about an hours drive to Bournemouth and Portsmouth. The poolis quite spectacular. This is a really good hotel!

The rooms need updating. The bathroom was in a time warp. The sink was cracked. The king-size bed was more like a camp bed. It was by far the smallest king-size bed we have ever attempted to sleep on. The mattress was of terrible quality.
