“Spa weekend break”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Stayed at this hotel with 3 girlfriends on a spa break. Special offer found in metro paper (an absolute bargain). The hotel far exceeded our expectations for what we paid. Staff all professional and friendly. There is a nice lounge with coffee/tea/hot choc in which to wait for yr treatments. Pool reasonable size with nice hot tub outside in the garden area. Food and service in resturant good. Room was clean and the bed comfy. Would visit again.

General cleanliness was poor the bathroom particularly, problems checking in and computers down so no way to check out. I was assured that a receipt would be sent as I am staying on business 2 weeks later will have to chase. To top it all the Breakfast was average to poor. Overall a very disappointing stay!

I was very sorry to read that your stay was disappointing. From your review, it appears that your stay was during our overnight server upgrade that overran as a result of an external switch networking issue. If you have not yet received your bill, please let us know directly at the hotel with your contact details and we will be sure to get it out to you.

I hope that you will have a much better experience on your return

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the foyer is a bit boring and the building is what it is, a sprawling complex of rooms. It has a great gym and pool with jacuzzi and it is very clean. The decor is a bit middle of the road and dated, for example our bathroom was large but the design and fittings could be a lot nicer and more modern. This sounds critical when its not meant to be harsh, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were very good.

The restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast menu.

Room Tip: The premium rooms offer a lot of space and are very comfortable.

Stayed here on a short break deal on a Saturday & Sunday. Check in was quick & efficient. Our room was a premium double which was on the second floor at the end of the corridor which suited us as no noise but is a bit of a walk from reception so may not suite all. The room was clean with a large bathroom, air con which was a bonus and it was well furnished. We liked the décor although not to everyone’s taste I'm sure. My only complaint is that it had a double bed, not king size which we are used to. I think when paying for a better grade of room this could be added as a lot of people now have king size beds. (If Premier Inn can, you can).

Our package included dinner on both nights, the food was very good, although the menu was quite limited in choice. Service differed, on Saturday it was very busy so service was very chaotic, I was told a lot of the staff were training (a usual problem with hospitality) although unusually no Eastern Europeans! Our table wasn't ready so we were asked to wait in the bar for 10 minutes at which time it would have been nice to be offered a complimentary drink. Sunday was a much more relaxed meal as it was a lot quieter. One thing I would say is that all the staff in the restaurant and bar areas were very friendly and tried their best to be helpful, even if they lacked leadership at times ( a common theme I have found at this hotel chain).

Breakfast was OK, usual buffet style, nice juice and the staff were very good with checking if you needed hot drinks. The quality of ingredients was good although the bacon and sausages looked a little anaemic on the busy Sunday but better on the quieter Monday. Disappointed that there were no small breakfast rolls which I prefer to toast, which brings me onto my next gripe, please get rid of that useless toaster! The usual, stick the bread through 3 times for it to toast. Come on- four star hotel in UK not 3 star in Benidorm! Surely the kitchen can produce some fresh toast.

We used the leisure facilities, nice outside spa bath (when you can get in it) OK size pool but that's about it. Not exactly luxurious surroundings, looks like its been built on the cheap, think large greenhouse, steam room not working, thank god because it looked very run down, sauna OK but floor was filthy and needed a good clean.

To summarise, this hotel is OK for a short break but don't expect luxury, for example the bar area is very uninspiring no background music, nibbles at the bar usual things you receive at rated hotels. It's rated 4 star but I would guess at the lower end as I have stayed in much better 4 star hotels.

One final thing, on checking out I had £25 added to my bill for restaurant meals, despite already being billed for our meals. It was taken off but no apology. Make sure you carefully check your bill on leaving.

I was surprised to find such different views on Tripadvisor when researching our anniversary weekend away but the hotel was well up to the best standards we had hoped for. ALL the staff were friendly, worked together as a team and did whatever they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Food was terrific, room was excellent and spa was fantastic. Just what we wanted.

We stayed at the hotel for a triple celebration (my birthday 1st day and wedding anniversary next day and wife's birthday day after that !)the package was for evening meal 1st night and afternoon tea next day. Due to it being anniv. We got our sides and rest of the bottle of sparkling wine free so fantastic gesture. Free wifi real bonus. Lots of parking. Really enjoyed the outside hot tub as well. Lovely pool and sauna but shame steam room o o o. Will visit again.
