Description: Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant's design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It's in this setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It's an experience your friends and family will not soon forget. The 17-mile journey from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You'll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century old oak trees. The restaurant's Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was. Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffee, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Grilled Redfish and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant will tempt even the most timid diner. We look forward to your visit.

“Fantastic Meal”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

Off the beaten path but worth the trip. We had a variety of food from the menu and every dish was great. The baked oysters were the show stopper. Crispy breadcrumbs over a delicious mixture of spinach and plump oysters. I also had the crawfish which not only was huge, but also prepared perfectly. My dad had the Stack salad with shrimp and crabmeat, which he couldn't say enough good things about. The service was great and prices very resin able.

“Gators right outside the window”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

The first thing I noticed is how nice the place is. I looked out the window, and a gator was laying on the lawn at the water's edge. We saw gators while we were eating. We enjoyed some great local beers and ordered the Jambayla, which the portions are huge and delicious! Service was great, and I would definitely recommend coming back. We had a great meal there right before taking our tour with the Louisiana Tour Company (they recommended the restaurant and gave us an appetizer coupon). Great choice!

“Amazing food and location.”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

We went here for lunch after taking a Swamp Boat Tour just around the corner.
What a great find. The atmosphere is relaxing, the service is wonderful an the food was amazing!
I started with a cup of Turtle Soup. I wish I had had the bowl instead because it was so good. The bread basket they bring you goes great with it. Then I had a Soft Shell Crab sandwich with all the dressings and it was superb. We are new to the New Orleans area and will be coming back to try some of the other delicious options on their menu. It's about 20 minutes from the city and well worth the drive.

“Excellent Sunday brunch about 30 minutes from downtown New Orleans”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

This was an exceptional restaurant in an area of excellent restaurants. The food was very good, the service was attentive, but not overwhelming, the value was good, the view was unusual and interesting. I don't think that there was really a bad table in the place. It overlooks a waterway and the room has a window wall which allows you to see the waterway.

We ordered the Sunday brunch, but you could order off the lunch menu instead, if you wanted to do. There were five courses plus champagne. We got eggplant parmesan as appetizer. The eggplant was tender, with crisp breading, great sauce, and not the least bit greasy, a common failing of fried eggplant. The soup was chicken gumbo, and was very good. The salad had a very pleasant dressing. The pork chop came with baked potato, but there was no problem with me substituting dirty rice. The dessert was off a dessert table, and included two kinds of cake, bread pudding with brandy sauce, and pecan pie.

This was a lovely meal in a lovely setting.
