I have visited the downtown shopping district three or four times over the years. Basically it's three to four good blocks long, together with a few attractions on two side streets.
Without a doubt the class act among the stores is the gift shop Merci Beaucoup, owned by the mother of the guy who runs the restaurant next door by the same name. My wife and I found four or five items in this very classy gift shop (the two golden pheasants are now sitting on a table in our entry foyer).
The other stores fronting Cane River Lake run the gamut from antiques to tourist items and general gifts and clothing, and, of course, a number of well known restaurants and the Louisiana Sports Museum.
When shopping is done, you can stroll across the street and savor the slow-placed beauty of the river.
While this is certainly not the largest shopping area in the country, it is what it needs to be for this historic and easy-going town.
This is a neat and relaxing way to spend two or three hours, and I'm pretty certain you'll have a great time.
