I took a gamble on this hotel when my husband, baby and I needed to stay one night in New Iberia this past weekend as we were passing through. There was only one review on TripAdvisor and that reviewer mentioned the hotel was brand new so I figured it would be hard to get something crappy if the hotel was so new....
Well. We arrived late, about 11pm, and had already set up our very tired, cranky infant in his playpen to sleep before we discovered there was hair in one of the two beds in our room!! My husband was ready to complain but I didn't want to repeat settling down our baby so we slept in the other bed. However, there were stains on the middle and top blankets of that bed, so you can imagine it was a very uncomfortable sleep as we were so grossed out. The mattress was also too soft for us.
The bathroom was mildly clean - but the shower curtain looked ancient! Yellowed, no longer white. Maybe that's from humidity, I don't know.
We had a room on the second floor and it was noisy! Like, I said, we checked in around 11pm. BOTH rooms on either side of us had their TVs so loud we listened to them until they turned them off. The flat screens may look nice, but when they are flat against the walls the sound really carries to the people sleeping on the other side of that wall! One of the rooms did not turn their TV off until about 12:30am. Yes, we were still awake. How can you sleep through so much noise?
Right as we were drifting off, at about 1 am, someone obviously checked into the room above us. They stomped around, opening and shutting drawers, unpacking it seemed, until after 1:30am.. Finally, sleep.
That is, until about 5:30am. Then all the noise started up again. Doors slamming, DOGS BARKING in the hallways... It was a HORRIBLE night of little sleep.
We didn't even shower the next morning or eat breakfast in the hotel. We just wanted to get out of there as fast as we could (we were pretty cranky and angry at that point).
Regardless, the hotel staff at booking and check out were very friendly. This was not an issue of customer service. Although, obviously the maid service needs MUCH improvement - either they are lazy or do not pay much attention to detail.
And in reference to the newness of the hotel... For a new hotel, it sure does not look that new in the rooms any more! That was pretty quick wear and tear, I must say. It must be a very busy hotel. And it was jam-packed the night we stayed - hence the incredible amount of noise.
