“I wish this was my local.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

After a pub down the road wasn't serving food a local gent gave us directions to this place... So glad we listened to him. After I helped the land lady work her new TV we sat down to some delicious food and I had a few pints of my favourite ale, Doom Bar. Very clean and tidy, with an awesome atmosphere. We chose to sit and watch the rugby whilst we ate and didn't really want to leave, but we had to go to a wedding reception! Highly recommended.

“A warm Welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

Popped in her mid week it was very quiet apart from a couple of locals. We were the only people who eating here. My husband had Brixworth pate and he said it was full of flavour.

Then for main we both had fish and chips which we both enjoyed. Then things took a bit of a turn when we ordered dessert. I had a chocolate dessert which was tasteless and semi frozen and my husband had cheese cake, it was so frozen so we had to complain . It was taken off the bill so he wasn't to upset .

What I don't understand is why put something on the menu mid week if it needs defrosting . A pudding with custard or ice would have been suitable , would have saved a complaint and a disappointed couple .

“Excellent community pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

We popped in for Sunday lunch. We were greeted at the bar and offered tasters of the different real ales until we found one we liked, there were 5 different ones, including one brewed specially for the pub, and also 4 different ciders, all in perfect condition.
They weren't serving food yet as they were having a barbeque shortly, when they were ready they let us know at our table. The menu was all meat and we had two veggies in our group, but when we explained they were very accommodating and found us an alternative dish, and cooked it in the kitchen away from the meat without prompting.
The food was simple but good ingredients and well cooked, not gourmet but tasty and a good accompaniment to a few drinks.

“Excellent meal and superb staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

I have Coeliac disease, I can't eat gluten, and the staff did an excellent job catering for what I needed. The food was excellent.

The pub is tucked away at the back of the village an was reasonably quiet when we went in. Lovely place run and owned by locals for the community.

“Different menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

Loved the quality and style of food since the new management took over, but have things started to slip a little? Pasta dish could have been more generous on the other ingredients so it was rather bland and the fish main course was very small. Thought the chunky bread with oil and balsamic beforehand was a nice touch though. The new menu is a bit confusing - it fully describes some items but then it says 'coming soon' and the menu choices shown on the web site were much nicer but not available on the new menu. Quality of ingredients not quite as good as before and we wonder if they have a different chef? Chips were very good though...lightly crispy on the outside and softly fluffy inside. Overall on this visit, the service was as excellent as ever and the wine was good and reasonably priced, but we didn't feel the high cost of the meal was good value for the quality and quantity received, especially the very small desserts at about £6 each. Perhaps we were just a bit unlucky. It would be nice to see the food quality once again match the high standard of the service, which is always warm, attentive and welcoming.
