“Excellent site, great value”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

The mobile home I stayed in was basic but very clean. The site was located close to kenmare and is ideal for exploring the bears peninsula. The owners were extremely friendly and very accommodating. Would happily stay at this site again

We only spent one night at Beara Campsite in our motorhome - it was booked out for the next few days - but we enjoyed the place, the owners, the surrounding countryside, and the great sense of peace the pervaded the area. We will definetely return, probably many times. Bert is a wonderful host, friendly and informative, and committed to helping you enjoy the experience.

Dear Marie and Kevin

Thank you for your review and your positive comments.
I will certainly pass on your comments to Bert.
We are always busy this time of year so it is best to book accommodation well in advance. We hope to welcome you both back again very soon
Maybe next time you can stay a bit longer.

We spent a weed-end in July. Lovely camping and lovely people. The camping-site was very clean, the showers were hot and powerful. Very quiet at night. We had breakfast on site at the cafe' and it was very relaxing. Our child, 6years old, enjoyed the playground with a nice swing, sandpit and trampolines. We would definitely come back.

Booked a hut for the June bank holiday weekend. Arrived to friendly owners and a warm welcome.

The hut was clean, comfortable, and made the trip with a 4 and 7 year old very easy, we stuck some towels over the windows and they slept until 9! Would have been awake at 5 in a tent. The evening it rained, as we had power, the kids could watch a movie on the laptop. Toilets were cleaned regularly, the showers feel like the pressure you get in a hotel. Only 7 miles to Kenmare to shop at Lidl.

The highlight of the trip was kayaking with the seals at the beach half a mile from the site, head west along the shore and the seals are hanging out in the rocks by Hog island. The water is amazingly clear if you want to snorkel (although the seals have cleaned out most of the life by the rocks), and while the seals won't come right up, once you're in the water with them they'll come fairly close.

Loads to do around the area, fishing, water sports, hiking, visit standing stones etc. Some great climbing for those who enjoy a challenge on a bike. If you take on the Healy pass, climb the Kerry side, the road is in better shape the Cork side for your descent.

Only thing I'd do differently is bring deet and citronella oil. Easily solved by a visit to a pharmacy in Kenmare and the garden centre on the Sneem road.

Thanks for a great break from the Herlihys in Cork.

Room Tip: Get a hut!

Dear Herlihy Family,

Many thanks for your review and all the positive comments. We are glad everything was to your satisfaction and that you enjoyed all the scenery and activities available in the vicinity of the camping. I will pass on all your comments to the owners. Our cabins are still the most popular accommodation type here at Beara Camping and are ideal when the weather isn't on your side.
In the past week, we have upgraded our playground so I am sure your children will enjoy that, may you wish to come back here again in the future.

Kind regards,

Albert van Bavel

well..i have just spent the most relaxing night ever on what I can only describe as the best irish campsite I have ever visited and am already planning my next trip down to kenmare and visiting again.our previous nite was camping wild with a rooftent on our van and we were battered by the atlantic winds .with very little sleep..on our way home we stayed the night at the peacock campsite and found the campgrounds to be spotless, sheltered and inviting. the host was most welcoming and gave me a tour before taking any booking..the facilitys are perfect and affordable..the highlight was what they call the outdoor lounge..a neat little cabin with free gas cooker, washing up facilitys and a huge open fire to chill out by..sat up till late burning a few logs and played some ukulele in great company..will recommend this to anyone and will be heading back soon,to be sure,to be sure,to be sure..wonky himself..jj
