Owner description: Go beyond the myths of the American South and explore the complex and intimate relationships of 4 generations of one Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved. Laura’s new, permanent exhibit examines in biographical detail the lives of Africans on the plantation, from enslavement into the 20th century. In the heart of Plantation Country on the Mississippi River, the fully guided experience includes the Big House, gardens & original 1840s slave cabins. Laura is open daily from 9:30AM - 5PM except for major holidays. The first tour of the day begins at 10AM with tours beginning approximately every 40 minutes thereafter until the last tour of the day at 4PM. Before or after your Laura tour, enjoy authentic, homestyle Cajun and Creole food at B&C Seafood Market and Cajun Restaurant right next door.

Brian was the perfect tour guide. He was well informed and knew a lot about the era, owners, slaves, and building architecture! He also had a great sense of humor and with taste was able to lighten the mood when appropriate. The tour included the entire property and even my teenage children enjoyed it! Better than Oak Alley BC the tour guide painted the perfect picture of the times!

Unlike many of the other plantations, Laura is a colorful plantation characteristic of a Creole home. It continues to add new attractions and offer more to the public. It is the closest plantation to New Orleans and won't eat up your day to visit.

We traveled to Valcherie to see the plantations and I am so greatful to our waiter at breakfast for recommending this place. Great tour of a Creole Plantation. Lots of information on this particular plantation. Great tour and our tour guide was full of knowledge. It really showed in the pride she had in going over this property. Definately take a day away from the hustle and buslte of New Orleans to relax in the country.

During a 6 week self-drive tour of the Southern USA earlier this year we tried to experience as many different aspects as possible and this day at the Laura Plantation will remain in our memories for many years to come. It was a beautiful day and a superbly constructed tour with a very interesting and animated guide (Brooke). Having left New Orleans (en route to Galveston) in the morning and expecting to have a whistle-stop visit to this plantation we found ourselves quite captivated and stayed far longer than we should have. But it was SO worth it. It is NOT, however, suitable for small children as they will not find it interesting!!!
