The parking lot was full of cars so we figured the food must be good and decided to give it a try. Boy were we wrong. I ordered a combo plate w/ an enchilada, burrito and taco. They all 3 tasted exactly the same except the burrito which had a red sauce on it that tasted like spaghetti sauce. The salsa looked and tasted like cheap ketchup. Please save yourselves the frustration and money....go somewhere else!!!

Chilli relleno was strips of green chilli and some hamburger smothered with yellow cheese. Cheese enchillada was tortilla wrapped around something smothered with white cheese. Tacos were pretty good. Service was good.

My wife and I often split one shrimp fajita and we always get full. It is always chock-full of shrimp, and we also always order their awesome cheese dip to complement the chips served at the beginning of the meal. We always get full and highly recommend this restaurant.

The location on the I-20 service road next to a Motel 6 and up the road from Wal-Mart should have been a giveaway. The truly garish décor outside should have been the next indicator. However, the desk folks at the Hilton said it was really good. We should have questioned their experience with “Mexican” cuisine before we made the trip.

Insipid salsa with small onion and tomato chunks, not much heat and an overload of garlic. We had to do a Where’s Waldo search for an unbroken tortilla chip. A decent queso that did not come from cheese whiz, but could have been pulled out of the microwave at least 30 seconds earlier.

Margherita’s ordered on the rocks were still warm from the jug they were poured out of. We’d never seen one garnished with a slice of lemon and a maraschino cherry before.

Service was good; all were pleasant and our server told us that the Chiles Rellenos were frozen (we’d had bad experiences with those before). We opted for their Chile Ranchito, which actually turned out to be a cheese chili relleno with another red sauce that defied description and flavor. That said, the Poblano chili was fresh; the batter was soft and it was not greasy. No sides offered with the entrée.

We followed up with a spinach quesedilla, which gave us yet another low point. Boiled spinach with no seasonings and still pretty wet, smothered in some strange (not farmers nor Monterey jack) cheese tucked into one large flour tortilla folded over to contain the filings. No there there at all. It was accompanied by a slice of an industrial strength tomato, shredded lettuce, drippy sour cream and what they may call guacamole, but resembled pureed green paste; equally as tasteless as the rest of their offerings. Thank god we didn’t order a side of guac before we had this.

We are not necessarily advocates of the El Chico and Taco Bell offerings; however, they are predictable and would have been a much better choice.
