We stayed overnight in one of the cottages, which was very nice. The dinner in the restaurant was great. The tour of the house the next day was very informative. The tour guide seemed to really enjoy her job, which made it very good. I would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway

I was excited about staying in one of the historic rooms at Nottoway Plantation on our trip through Louisiana plantation country after leaving New Orleans. When you first see it, it will take your breath away. However gorgeous the room was, the fact remained that the bed was too short for my tall husband's comfort. The beds were original ones used by the daughters of the house, so it would have been like sleeping in a museum. They moved us to one of the "slave quarters" which are newly constructed hotel rooms vaguely configured like a shack, but with nice and modern amenities. They were comfortable, with ac and nice bathroom and a tv. It seemed no different than staying in a chain hotel. It was kind of disappointing when I'd been expecting another historic hotel stay. We still enjoyed exploring the grounds and we did get a look inside the main house. Absolutely beautiful. You can even see the Mississippi River from the upstairs windows and balconies. There's also a little burial ground in the back where family members have been laid to rest. It is a resort and has a resort-like atmosphere, so it seems kind of touristy. Definitely worth a visit. Haunted, of course.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in one of the historic rooms, be aware that they will not be as comfortable as y...

Visited Nottoway plantation today for a "girls' day out." Took a tour of the home (which was outstanding) walked the gorgeous grounds--flowers, fountains, statues, old cemetery, bridges, cottages etc. Had lunch in the mansion restaurant. Crab and brie bisque, fried green tomatoes topped with crabmeat romulade, a gigantic burger and the daily "Blue Plate Special," which changes daily, consisted today of fried chicken, white beans, collard greens, and the BEST cornbread imaginable--strawberry shortcake for dessert--$7.99! Huge servings! Service was impeccable!

I'm happy we (family of 4 with 2 teens) decided to stay overnight here, but the property doesn't look as "grand and manicured" as it does in the photos, especially in comparison to the just visited Houmas House. We started driving from New Orleans and visited 3 other plantations on the way before we arrived around 6 pm. It would have been nice to be a couple of hours earlier to enjoy the pool, as we were heading to dinner at 7 pm at their restaurant. The food and atmosphere were great, both at dinner and the following morning's breakfast buffet, but the service was rather slow. The staff in general on this property seem to be a tad "inexperienced" or are part-time seasonal workers. We picked the pond side cottage so we can sit in our rocking chairs on the front porch and enjoy the view (which included the family cemetery, just to warn anyone skittish out there : )). The inside was new and comfortable, except the air con blew out of ceiling vents directly above our pillows, so we needed to close a couple. However we were happy not to have picked the Main House rooms because they need to kick you out by 10 am to accommodate the tours, and the beds were "as original" and a bit small. Unlike the previous viewer who said "don't go through Expedia", I'm happy I booked through Expedia because 2 breakfasts and 2 tours were included in the same posted rate as the hotel's website (and I'm giving it 4 stars for value because of the package we got from Expedia). Tours aren't automatically included for hotel guests. While my husband and I did the tour our kids were in the pool, which was a good thing as it was underwhelming compared to the other ones we went to (Laura and Houmas). It's a nice stay overall but it fell short of expectations as a "resort".

Our cottage was very quaint. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food and drinks were very tasty. The tour of the house was very informative and professionally done. It was a great visit. The house has been refurbished. The grounds are well kept

We had the opportunity to spend an afternoon and night at Nottoway. (We used Book.com and got a deal where breakfast was included with our stay.

The property has been excellently updated while keeping the history and feel of the property front and center. We chose to stay in one of their "cottages" but visitors also have the option of staying in the mansion itself. Rooms that are not rented at the time of tours become a part of the tour! Rooms that are let are closed off from visitors at that time, but what a neat mix!

The very few things that I think need addressed are the fact that some standard upkeep on the fronts of the cottages (fly specks are all over the fronts of the cottages and doors) as well as the staff really need to keep the windows bays on the outside of the restaurant broomed off. It's not overly appealing to see insect debris on the outside sills which is a distraction from the absolutely amazing seating area. (The windows in the restaurant are floor to ceiling and curved and offer the guest an unrivaled feeling of dining on the lawn.)

If you choose to get a room inside the mansion, pick the master bedroom if possible. Otherwise, the cottages are spacious, updated and offer a luxurious stay in this delightful property.

Room Tip: Pick a cottage or the master bedroom in the mansion

I reserved a room through Expedia and I didn't even get to stay in the old house. It was a cottage instead. It was still nice but I was suppose to have a room in the historical plantation house. The man at the front desk didn't care. The grounds are beautiful and the breakfast was delicious !! This would be a grand place for a wedding.
