“Great atmosphere but very disappointing food...”
Reviewed 5 September 2013 via mobile

I have visited this place many times for an afternoon tea or drinks with some friends. This time we decided to eat too...bad choice! Garlic bread or I should say a piece of bread with some butter on it, was awful and tastlees. Thai prawn curry had 6 prawns a size of a 5p in it. Service at the bar was good and cocktails were great althought waitress who delivered our mains couldn't care less.. I didn't have cutlery on the table and it was hard to get anyone's attention. Sorry but pretty disappointing visit this time...

Have previously enjoyed visits to Orocco Pier to dine in the restaurant, so was really looking forward to visiting again, but this time as an evening guest at a wedding.
Was so disappointed !
When the evening guests arrived at the appointed time, it was evident that the schedule was running very late. So much so that the day guests were just finishing their meal and the function room had still to be " turned round" for the evening reception.
Most of the evening guests went to the bar area, but it soon became uncomfortable and embarrassing as we were crowded round tables where diners were having their meals.
The bar staff were uninterested, surly and displayed a " could not care less attitude " that is completely unacceptable.
We were eventually ushered out to a veranda area to wait : luckily it was dry but it was rather chilly.
Eventually the evening reception got under way at 9.00pm ( originally scheduled for 7.30pm )
The member of staff who was organising the " first dance " was dreadful.
Firstly, it was difficult to hear him, despite him having a microphone.
He did not have the good manners to introduce the bride and groom by name : just " your bridal party ! "
In my opinion, the first dance at a wedding is an important and emotional event, and it was a shame to see the way it was organised here.
During the evening the bar and table service was slow, slow, slow.
Very young staff with no interest in their jobs and an no obvious manager in sight co coordinating the event.
When I did work out who was in charge I was dismayed to see that she displayed the same glum. " get me home quick " attitude as the other staff.
I discovered later that many other guests were also disappointed by the poor service given at this wedding.
Not good enough Orocco Pier : your crown is slipping!

Attended a wedding 25 August and stayed for one night in an executive room. The hotel is modern and stylish . The food is of a very good standard and the hotel seems to be run efficiently. Amazing views of the Forth Bridge . The room that we stayed in was very smart , spacious and spotlessly clean with a very comfortable super king size bed. The bathroom was large with bath and double walk in shower. Good value for money and if I was in this area again would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again. There is no car park but free parking fairly close by.

Stayed here for a couple of nights as I couldn't get a room in the city during the festival, but was happy i did. Room 15 was a fantastic room, massive bed, luxury bathroom, big TV with DVD player and above all a fantastic view of the bridge.
The staff were great and helped out in sorting a booking mistake and were genuinely helpful. Excellent breakfast all prepared to order. French toast and fresh fruit and cream was a top way to start the day!
The one downside is the terrace from the bar is under the room and people out drinking at 12.30 to 1.00 when the bar shuts makes an early night a challenge.
There is a free car park a few minutes walk away.

Unlike the millions in Edinburgh this weekend we were not here for the festival we were here for my wife to have corrective eye surgery. Having scanned the hotels for weeks, most were full and every one was overpriced, the choices were limited so it was either the airport budget hotels or travel out of town.We were lucky to get the last available room at the Orocco Pier, and were genuinely looking forward to our stay.

We arrived at 3pm and the room was not ready, although this is a little on the late side the description did say checkin 4pm, we descended on the restaurant to fill the time. The place was vey busy and were advised there was a delay in ordering food, we ordered drinks and sat overlooking the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge, when the food arrived it was excellent and both of us enjoyed our order.
We ventured no further that the hotel bar in the evening and again have no complaints, we rounded off our trip with a full Scottish Breakfast, a read of the Sunday papers and of course overlooking the Firth of Forth.

I have read the reviews of others and most of the poor ones seem to be in 2012 and beyond, I can only assume there has been some work done on things because on the whole we could not fault the place.

The photograph is taken from our bedroom withe camera balanced on a coffee cup !

Room Tip: go for the executive rooms and try and get a bridge view

The food was excellent and waiting staff suitably attentive. As for the views - well they would be hard to top anywhere. The only gripe I have is the waitress's repeated use of the word 'guy' when referring to me - as in 'Was everything alright for you guys?' I resisted the temptation to point out that I have two substantial mammary glands attached to my upper body that make it more than clear I belong to the female species! A simple 'Was everything alright for you?' would suffice!
