When I come upto Edinburgh and the surrounding area I always forget to book into the Dakota.
If you are in a car this hotel has everything - free parking, great food and excellent value for money.
All in all a good stay and eating experience.

This is a fantastic hotel from the moment you step through the doors, and curtains into the large open reception area. The rooms are amazing. Very spacious, with modern fixtures and fittings, an innovative storage! Plenty of mirrors in the room. Another reviewer comments on the lighting in the hotel....it is indeed quite dimly lit, but this adds to its ambience, and the candles in the main reception area complete this. The lighting is not a problem in the rooms, as the spacious bathroom has exceptional lighting and mirrors.
I'd thoroughly recommend breakfast...excellent choice, and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
The Dakota is a fabulous hotel, well worth a stay if you are in the area. It's location is great, and there is plenty of parking. Beautiful South Queensferry with its stunning views of the 2 Forth bridges is only a 15 min walk downhill.

This is a modern hotel following the trend for boutique and functional where every detail has been followed with anal proficiency, equal numbers of candles on each individual surface with chunky finishes throughout the entire hotel... not that this is any bad thing...

Located just off the motorway in a busy retail park with a Tesco, Burger King and Frankie and Benny's there are plenty of options should you decide not to dine in the hotel which is rather expensive. However this isn't a hotel you can pop out to Edinburgh from in any easy manner, it's a twenty minute drive on a good day and more like an hour in the usual traffic coming from the Forth Bridge into the city, with extensive road works scheduled through to 2016 you could find yourself stuck and the Dalmenny railway station is not a short walk away although there are plenty of slow buses. Without a car and / or wishing to see Edinburgh tourist attractions then this is too far out of the city for such.

The hotel design seems to favour form over function, for example the storage at the rear of the bed wastes valuable space and although very brightly lit some areas are strangely dark, like the storage behind the bed and the shaving point in the bathroom. The loo roll holder looks great but you pull the paper and it spins off the end of the chrome pole, it all looks good (in fact great) however certain little things do niggle - for example the fascade of the hotel is black stone tiles, which expand in the morning sun as they heat creaking and banging away, try that at 5 or 6 am in the summer.

Breakfast was very nice although I did get the feeling their target market are Americans, streaky bacon is not a staple of the Scots and whaurs ma tattie scone? No complaints but put it this way , it was not what I expected and this left me a little flat. I know this sounds a negative review but I'm trying to illustrate the down sides of this hotel which you will likely not find complaint about and all I'd say fairly is that we wouldn't avoid it but nor would be chose it for leisure trips to The Smoke. For business, for airport yes...

Room Tip: Whilst the Forth Bridge(s) are to the N/East and offer a great view remember this side of the hotel...

This hotel is fantastic! Rooms are gorgeous and clean, and spacious with quirky storage! Restaurant was lovely and service brilliant. I do recommend booking your table at the restaurant in advance of your arrival to ensure you get the time you want. The location is good if you have a car. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family in the future.

We stayed here for 2 nights with family for a weekend getaway and from the moment we stepped into the lobby we were not disappointed. This hotel is great. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the dual carriage way outside. We were a but apprehensive about this but shouldn't have been as you could not hear any traffic noise at all. Rooms are large with plenty storage space, immaculately clean, comfy beds and the shower was amazing!
Rather than drive into the city centre we took the train in. It takes only 10 mins and cuts out all the traffic etc.
We never ate dinner in the restaurant but the breakfasts were delicious. We had drinks in the bar both evenings, staff were great, they couldn't have been more helpful.
We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Edinburgh.

We stayed at the Dakota for one night in a double room, approx £80, on a saturday night. The Dakota is on the outskirts of South Queensferry, as the hotel advertises good access to Edinburgh airport but asides from this the only thing you can walk to is Tesco! 15/20 mins to Edinburgh by car. The village of South Queensferry (which is lovely with beautiful views over the Forth) is 5 mins by car. The hotel worked for us as we had our car and were visiting family in Edinburgh and Fife.

The reception hall leading to bar and restaurant is a wonderful space and has a great, smart, even boutique (despite its size) ambiance to it. Other hotel brands could learn a thing or two from Dakota. Check in was very efficient. Our room was to a high standard, excellent style and not the usual bland modern hotel room, still had an edge. Overlooked the bypass but didn't expect any different. The only real major downfall to the room was the bed and the mattress was hard as a brick, actually kept waking up through the night because back was so sore, introduce toppers please!!

We dined in the restaurant and had a wonderful meal, I had the Panzanella salad to start, a great take on the classic mozzarella and tomatoes. My husband had the scallops which he said were good. I then had the Rigatoni which was lovely (these were the only two vegetarian options on the menu but fair enough it is the Dakota grill!) My husband had the Filet Mignon which was on the specials menu and said it was delicious. We then shared a satisfying Creme Brulee. Would definitely recommend dining in the restaurant one night if you are staying.

Breakfast was not included in our room rate but was fine for us as we had to leave very early in the morning. In all this is an excellent hotel and we would definitely consider staying again if around the area - if we could specify a softer bed!
