My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for a Friday evening at very short notice.
When we arrived at reception, there was one girl working, who left us and a gentleman in front of us waiting while she answered the phone. Indeed, she was part way through checking the gentleman in, and stopped to answer this call from another customer. I was quite shocked that customer service could be so poor.
However, we were extremely impressed with the standard of room, given the £66 price we had paid, as well as the fact that the hotel was only 3*.
The room was very nicely decorated, with a large flat screen television on the wall, a leather bound desk, muted lighting, bathroom toiletries, etc.
However, at 9am on the Saturday morning, we were both awoken to a very loud consistent banging. After over half an hour of this, we telephoned reception and were informed it was the sound of the gym below us, probably the running machine. I was extremely disappointed, as we had checked into the hotel for a relaxing evening and morning, not to be awoken by a banging which continued for well over 40 minutes, by which point we had decided to get up and get ready.
We went downstairs to check out, and saw it was the same girl on reception... There were two people in front of us in the queue, both waiting to check in. The girl answered three phone calls before and during dealing with the customers in front of her.
I am aware that she was the only member of staff on the reception desk, but in my opinion, the phone should have been ignored until customers had been dealt with.
Lovely rooms (and a nice restaurant - we have eaten here on another occasion), but our stay was let down by other factors.

Room Tip: Ask for a room nowhere near the gym!

Dear Newcastle 82,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at Dakota. It is disappointing and concerning to read your comments regarding your check in experience. We are very proud of the reputation we have earned for excellent service and we were extremely disappointed that this was not evident when you arrived.

We strive to provide personal and professional service. Rest assured we take this matter very seriously and will take steps to ensure that the handling of telephone enquiries does not come at the cost of guest service. I appreciate that any action taken retrospectively will come as little consolation but I hope that should you return to Dakota in the future you will experience the excellent level of service that recent Tripadvisor reviews have complimented.

If you are going to be in the area again please do not hesitate to contact me directly and I will see to it personally that you experience the level of service which has brought us such positive acclaim.

Yours sincerely,

James Archer

We booked the Dakota to stay overnight after attending a wedding at the nearby Orocco Pier. As we were attending the wedding we requested an early check-in, which wasn't a problem and when we came to check in it went without hitch and the girl on the desk (I think the duty Manager) couldn't have been friendlier.
The hotel is stunningly sumptious with oversized sofas, a great central fire going and it makes you relax from the moment you walk in.
Once we got up to our room we were no less impressed really well decorated and were very comfortable, so much so we arranged a 2pm late check out for the following day so we could chill out.
Due to being at the wedding we never ate in Dakota other than breakfast which was great and no complaints.

All in all a great stay, if anything let it down slightly it was the male reception member that was at the desk when checking out. It took a little while for him to do whatever he was staring at on the screen whilst checking us out and made no attempt to chat or engage with us. I felt this was a bit of a let down and I just stood there while waiting for the computer to catch up or whatever the hold up was. This however was no where near enough to put me off booking the Dakota again in the future, just a point that I hope the hotel take on-board. Finishing the guests stay as well as when they enter the hotel leaves just as much of a lasting impression.

We booked through late rooms, and were not disapointed, the hotel is beautiful, very modern, and rooms lovely and big.... We arrived an hour early, and asked if it was ok to sit and have drinks while we waited for the check in time of 2pm, but Gillian, that was on the desk was very good, and allowed us to check in early, she also gave us all the info we needed to get into the town at night, she was more than happy to book us our taxi, which arrived right on time...... I must admit, hotels need more people front of house like Gillian...., nothing was too much trouble. we did enjoy the hotels bar in the afternoon...... I can highly recommend the cocktail called "twinkle" a real must try :-) x we have stayed at this hotel before, and would stay again....10/10 goes to the Dakota.

Room Tip: Id say that all rooms are to a high standard,

The service here is probably the best I have ever experienced, polite, friendly, makes you feel very welcome. We had dinner there too and food was outstanding! Room was great, modern, clean and comfortable. We highly recommend this place. The only bad thing is that anywhere we stay now will be rubbish compared to Dakota.

Just returned home from an amazing night at the Dakota Hotel Edinburgh, The visit was a birthday get away treat for both myself and my wife.

On arrival we were really impressed by the main reception area which consisted of several large comfy sofas and the overall decor was modern and spotless, a good start I thought.

The girl on the reception desk could not have been any nicer to us, asking us if we had visited the hotel before and explained the layout of the hotel in detail to us both.

The room we booked was a double room, this was also very modern with dimmable lighting .The contents included a flat screen tv mounted to the wall, large comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, writing desk and complimentary wi-fi internet connection , the room itself was spacious and spotless throughout.

The ensuite shower room was also excellent very modern, exceptionally clean and consisted of your normal toiletries.

We had opted for the bed and breakfast deal at first when booking, we were not sure where we were going to dine that evening as there are several fantastic eateries in the surrounding South Queensferry area.

We then decided to book a meal at the hotel, We contacted the hotel to see if this would be possible and it was no trouble to include this and a table was reserved for us. We even received a courtesy call from the hotel reminding us of our table reservation prior to arrival

The bar area was excellent modern decor and very clean and with table service you never needed to move from your table, the staff were all very polite and attentive, the drinks prices were reasonable enough, your typical city bar prices.

The restuarant area was idyllic, the choice of food was also good ranging from seafood dishes to steaks, the menu tended to lean more towards these dishes though, and could have done with possibly a few chicken or pasta dishes for those not wanting seafood or steak, thats the only one thing I would criticise on. The food was well presented and excellent,I personally opted for the T-Bone steak and would recommend this. The waiter could not be more attentive throughout our meal, a truly great dinning experience was to be had. The breakfast was also Delicious and plenty to choose from.

Location wise the hotel is idealy situated with the major roadways nearby for onward travel, I also believe that the hotel also offers free transfers to Edinburgh airport I would however check this with the hotel prior to ensure this is stiil true.

We found the check in and out times to be very good check in is at 14:00 and check out at 11:00.

To sum things up, we will most certainly be visiting Dakota again in the near future.

Give Dakota a try you will not be dissapointed.

What a brilliant stay we had at the Dakota. A surprise treat from our family and a treat indeed it was. Everyone was so helpful The food was delicious, and our waiter could not have been more attentive. Lovely coffee and drinks in a superb seating area where we had a lovely chat and then off to our superb room..( so clean) and had a brilliant nights sleep. We REALLY did enjoy our stay and would highly recommend anyone to stay here . ONE night was not enough.

Room Tip: Have only been this once so cant give any tips on a good room but ours was excellent. The Lift was...

We had an overnight stay in January 2013, with the hotel and staff being very welcoming on a cold and miserable winter day. The rooms were spotless and of excellent quality. We ate out at night but the next time we stay we would try out the dining facilities. Excellent link straight to motorway for onward travel. All in all we could not fault it!!
