Me and my partner stayed at the hotel start of february for a night away. I was blown away. It is a gorgeous hotel. Nice clean big rooms, very luxurious, bed very comfy, lots of great freebies in the room. The staff were also very pleasant and couldnt do enough for you. The food was excellent. Quite alot to choose from. You have the bar menu, grill menu (the one we went to) and also breakfast. Slightly overpriced but me and my partner really enjoyed it so money well spent in our case.
Modern hotel, beautiful outside and in to sit and relax in the bar and lounge area. Very romantic as well as the opposite, relaxing with business friends after work. What more can you ask for for £79 a night.
Have spoken to persons who have stayed here in the past and going by their reviews its still the same. Very pleasant stay and we will be returning.

My partner & I previously stayed at Dakota in October 2008 where we had a terrific stay - we were particularly impressed with both the service of all staff & the impressive food in the Grill. On returning in January 2010 we checked in with ease and made our way to our room on the fifth floor - once again the rooms are modern chic and very clean/tidy. The problems began when we went to the Grill for dinner - After being served stale bread before dinner we were treated to rubbery overcooked squid for starter, the waitress failed to notice we hadnt eaten our starter and quickly cleared our plates without any questions as to why we left some food or to see if we enjoyed the stater.....the mains consisted of my bland under seasoned lamb and my partners uninspiring john dory,on telling the waitress she once again quickly cleared the table and replied I will tell the chef!We were then given the dessert menus without asking if we would like any beforehand?
At this point we retired to our room, disappointed that we hadnt had the same dining experience we had on our first visit to the Grill.
After a good night sleep in the lovely room,we departed without being asked by the receptionist if we had enjoyed our stay?
Once again the service level at Dakota has dropped dramatically since our first visit.
This is disappointing as the hotel is lovely but some customer service training is badly needed.

We stayed here on Boxing Day night whilst visiting friends who live nearby. The hotel is very comfortable and modern. The temperature in the room was just right and we could open the window for fresh air. We had breakfast in the restaurant and it was very good, well presented and represented value for money. The only niggle I had was that we used the tea and coffee facilities in the room and my tea tasted a bit of coffee. The mugs are black and it was possible that it had not been cleaned properly after the last use.
We had tried to stay in the Dakota the previous year and mentioned this to the receptionist who told us that this was the first year they had stayed open over the Christmas break.

A party of 6 ate in the restaurant on 27th December 2009. I have eaten there before and so I was returning as the experience had been good in the past. However we were disappointed and will not be back soon. The waiting staff seemed to be mainly young people/students and did not know their job. they had to be reminded to bring drinks and side dishes that had been ordered. They did not remember who had ordered which dish and had to ask the table "who ordered the...". Service was poor. The food was poor value, hard vegetabvles. Overcooked mussels, sea bass that had no taste of the garlic, ginger and chili, etc. For the high prices they are charging, this ought to be much better than it was

Stayed at this hotel for the first time with a mixed group of adults. The hotel staff, quality, rooms and attention to detail were all good. Minor observations - very dark interior due to extensive LED lighting. Festive menu was on offer at £35 but no festive atmosphere, decorations, lighting, music or party bits. Food was of good quality and well presented but very minimal. There was no information to tell you what the main course came with and for someone with anything but a size zero appetite you would be left wanting more. Overall a good quality well thought out hotel that is let down by the size of the food portions. Would I stay again? Yes but would eat elsewhere.

The rooms at the Dakota are beautifully designed, the bar and restaurant are also very stylish. We loved the light fittings, shower, and sumptuous chairs. We were collected from the airport in the complementary bus which was very good but without a car the hotel is not very handy for Edinburgh. Breakfast was good but my only complaint is the room service. It was a Friday night so the restaurant was busy; we decided to get room service. After about 40 minutes our steaks arrived - stone cold. But we were so hungry we just ate them. This didnt reflect the award winning restaurant. The hotel is situated in an industrial estate which is a bit grim but at least it means theres a big Tesco next door!
