We expected a quick stop at the Cole Land Transportation Museum but were surprised to find a large and diverse collection of transportation items spanning many decades. The collection includes snow plows, fire trucks, trains, and more. Some of the vehicles are particularly old or unique.
Our visit was early in the morning and the museum was virtually empty, which made for a quiet and peaceful experience. We were greeted by a member of the museum staff who told us personal stories about his experiences with Maine transportation.
If you're in Bangor and have some free time, the Cole Land Transportation Museum is worth a visit. I never even heard of the Cole transportation companies, but I still found the exhibits interesting and engaging. We spent about an hour at the museum, but you could easily spend half a day if you look closely at all the exhibits.
