“Historic, cool, nice place to stay.”
Reviewed 31 May 2010

This was a good place to spend the night. It's old, clean and has a staff that truly understands customer service. We were there on a Saturday and the music from the nearby bar was loud, but it was also good. The continental breakfast was mediocre as most of them are. Still, this is a nice hotel in a good location.

Came to view UMaine campus with my daughter. The Inn is in a good location within walking distance of shops and cafes (not a lot of which, though, were open; it looked like the economy has hit the Bangor businesses hard). The woman at the desk was very helpful and welcoming. The Inn could definitely use some updating, but was very clean. The room was cold when we arrived, as stated in other reviews, but it warmed up quickly. Would stay here again if the rate were good.

My girlfriend and I stayed here New Years Eve after enjoying ourselves at Hollywood Slots watching Motor Booty Affair. This is an old place and maintains much of that....ahem, charm. Which is fine....it's close to many things in Bangor which was great. When we got into the room it was about 50° inside! The heater took a long time but finally got the room warmed up. Bed was fine, but one night was about all I'd want to sleep on it. The owner and hostess of the hotel was very pleasant and took care of a rowdy group next to us who showed up around 2 a.m. in a very drunken state! I called her and asked for another room, we couldn't sleep with all the noise and partying. She informed me to stay, she would be right up and move the group out. Within 10 minutes, all was quiet. I was very pleased at her fast action which allowed us to get back to sleep. Breakfast the next morning was more than expected.....basic stuff, yet tasty. Bagels, toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola bars, coffee, juice, milk, tea..... Parking could be a problem, but I was lucky to find the last place out back....during a huge snow storm no less, which made it tough. Of course it was a busy weekend being New Years. Oh, the art work in the hotel is awesome. It is displayed in the lobby and through out the halls. Great stuff by local artist....I loved it.

In a beautiful old building in the heart of town. Large, comfy rooms (limited TV if that matters to you), affordable. Helpful staff.

The Charles Inn at West Market Square. A charming small hotel located at the center of restored downtown Bangor. Good sized, clean, comfortable rooms. A half-dozen or more good pubs and restraunts within a one block radius, with many more restraunts and shops within easy walking distance. My room had some street noise in the evening (Friday) but was pleasantly quiet later on. Very reasonably priced with free parking and a complimentary continental breakfast.

The hotel is very unique, as no two rooms are too much a like. The furniture is an older look that ties in with Bangors whole atmosphere. It has really preservered the historic atmosphere. It has a wonderful art collection around the lobby. Also an entertainment room with a computer so you can check your email, as well as borrow a DVD to watch. The free breakfast offered various items, and was different each day! My room was clean and had a comfortable bed to sleep on.

The highlight of the trip was how friendly the owner was, who also operates the whole hotel. She was so helpful with tips around town, and with any other things we needed. She tries to meet every single guest needs, and makes each guest feel at home( unlike chain hotels who you are a dime a dozen to them) The little hotel dog was cute and very well behaved, even made me feel more at home.
