We've been coming to MDI for decades, and eaten at a number of really good restaurants on the island. A friend (who also has been coming here for years) recommended Nemo's to us. She's no slouch, the friend: she used to be a chef, and a cheese maker. So we took her advice and went. We'd just completed a 7-hour Death March across the western half of the island, so our appetites were raging. We had a blast, and had a wonderful meal. Beers were fantastic: a "small" is 20 ounces, and has a nice frothy head. The haddock chowder was really good: served in a paper bowl, it surprises you when you taste how good it is. We also ordered some ribs for a shared appetizer; very tender and not over-sauced; rivals Mainely Meats offering up in Town Hill. The entrees were good all around; I had the "Juicy Lucy," a jalapeno and cheese stuffed burger. All around, a great "local" place. Don't go, thinking you're going to a fastidious place like XYZ or Mache Bistro. Go when you're hungry, and you want very good "dive" food and fantastic beer. By the way, the margaritas are good, too, particularly the blueberry margarita.

Looks like a dive from all around, which is probably how they want it to look - to keep would-be, entitlement-driven tourists out. Sit outside in a stockade fenced-in area, sheltered from the road, amongst children's toys, a covered swimming pool, rolls of paper towels here and there for your use, patio tables that are repaired with pieces of 1x4. Do NOT let these appearances fool you! This is a diamond in the rough. Macho nachos were delish, which was all we had, since it was between meal times. They had a variety of local sodas on the menu, which was appreciated by me, since I don't drink alcohol. Very casual, laid back place...definitely recommend to anyone (except the touristy-type folk).

"Go for the beer -- not for the food." The draft beers are served in frosty mugs, and they have a fairly wide variety of drafts available, including craft beers from Maine. Also available are bottled beers and cocktails. Coldest beer ever, which is a plus. The fish chowder was the best we've had on Mount Desert Island -- lots of thyme and overall flavorful, but not outstanding. The fried haddock was tough and overcooked, as were the potato "dubloons" (fried, thin cross slices of potato). Finally stopped trying to eat the fish and potato side dish. Too chewy. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. The random and interesting decor is -- as many have said -- Key West eclectic, only this is Maine, so there is a fair representation of lobsters and buoys. We got there around 5:45, and by 6:15 the place was packed. Lots of families with kids, and it is a good place to take the kids. But the restaurant is very busy, so service -- while friendly -- is slow.

Random find during a day drive over to the lighthouse. Would've loved to come back for drinks/ dinner (lobster bloody Mary's) and the Jamaican band but unfortunately ran out of time. For our quick drink stop we liked this place for it's character. We were able to chat with the friendly bartenders and play some pool - the people here really help make the place awesome. It's kind of a dive but it has a lot of character and fun things to look at.

Don't let the eclectic lobster/marine decorations fool you, this restaurant is worth a visit especially if you are fond of fresh lobster. It is definitely one of those down Maine family owned and operated places that looks like it has been there forever. Food is great and service is straight forward with a no nonsense approach to taking care of what you need and then leaving you alone. We opted for a pair of 2 pound lobsters and had time to relax with a beer or two while the owner's son went down to the pier... the lobster was literally just off the boat. All the usual trimming with a special treat of "fiddle heads" since they were still in season. Delicious!
