Bass Harbor Campground
Reviewed 14 August 2010

We spent 3 nights at Bass Harbor Campground. We had to leave early due to a family emergency and the staff were very supportive and offered a raincheck for the unused nights. Bathrooms & Showers are very clean and well maintained. We stayed at site 206 and it was a little tight, but workable. Some sites are extremely close and if you get a noisy neighbor it can cause some sleepless nights. Store a little junky but down home Maine-like. Excellent location and a short ride to several nice hikes, Southwest Harbor, grocery store and a few gift shops in SW Harbor.

We were at Bass Harbor Campground the first week in August and stayed in cabin 7 which was newly built. The cabin was a wonderful alternative to tenting. The cabin was furnished with a microwave, refrigerator, gas grill and a coffee pot. Running water was available just outside the cabin door. The campground was quiet and well maintained. I would recommend the campground to anyone.

This is our 5th year going to Bass Harbor Campground. We went later this season - so the campground was not as busy as past years. The facilities are clean, the staff friendly and helpful. I read that others had problems with noise - not when we were there! This is a very nice place to camp.

A very nice campground, well located near Bass Harbor lighthouse and a short drive from many key sites in Acadia Natl. Park. The main problem with the campsites (C section) is that many of them are crowded quite closely together. There is not much privacy and there are invariably loud neighbours (we stayed one week) who talk and play music all evening. That's not my idea of a nature experience; why go camping if you want to party and listen to the radio?! Owners are nice and the place is clean, but the campground map is quite misleading as to the privacy of the individual sites, and they could be more attentive to the problem of noisy campers.

We were unlucky. This campground was recommended as being on the quiet side of the island. The sites are close together and it was anything but quiet. We didn't sleep either night we stayed there. Although the location is amazing and the facilities fairly clean, the staff does not enforce the hours advertised as quiet time to respect neighbors. I suppose if you want to party untethered, you could go there. We loved the area, but would never go back to the campground. Try Seawall, part of Acadia instead.

The campground is rather washed out with ruts and mud from a week ago rain storm with no apparent repair started. In general a very used look and lack of maintenance appearance like overgrown grass, difficult walking caused by many loose rocks on the roads, mosquitoes, 5 gallon container full of water very dark at night with no lights etc. They advertise Wi Fi so I expect my Mac to work as it had in every park but the owners only response was “mine works fine”. I had to go in town to the library for needed internet connection which was with Wi FI. Overall the poorest camp stayed at on my trip.

We went during the off season in June and booked site C23. In June, this side of the campgrounds are usually empty at this time and we were the only ones on that side! The employees and owners were very very friendly.
