a lovely way to spend the day. Boat leaves from the wharf at the fort at Popham Beach. Know that you will have to transfer from the boat to a dinghy when you get to the island's "harbor" to make it to the beach. Ethan is an exceptional captain, well-skilled and knowledge-able.

Not all of our visitors have the time to spend the majority of a day on this trip, but we go as often as possible. We take our own boat to the dock at Popham so we don't have to park a car (and it takes the same time as the drive from Bath) and board Ethan's comfy boat for the ride out through the most turbulent river mouth past the old life-saving station, Pond Island with its light, to lovely, quiet Seguin, just 3 miles off shore. The small group is rowed to shore and the adventure begins. There's an uphill walk to the lighthouse, commissioned by G. Washington in 1797. Because it's situated high on the island, it's a relatively short lighthouse and the keeper-in-residence will take you up to see the only 1st order fresnel light working on the east coast. Take a snack and water and enjoy the feel of centuries past. Relax, explore (museum and paths), and walk back to meet the boat after a stay of about 2 hours. A unique experience and unforgettable. Boat fee, reduced for "Friends of Seguin".

Take the Seguin Island Ferry from Fort Popham. It is a 30 minute ride, $30 round trip. Then you get a dinghy ride to the beach and then walk a steep trail to the lighthouse. (The only drawback to the whole visit is that it is not accessible for wheelchair users.) The working lighthouse is open Memorial Day to Labor Day for visitors. There is a museum and gift shop that also sells bottled water. Take a picnic lunch. You can go up in the lighthouse. The views are wonderful. The friends of seguin lighthouse FOSIL run the program. Check their website for information on staying
overnight. Overall, this is a magical, beautiful and historic trip. Put it on your bucket list!

From the shore line, it looks like such a tiny little island with only the light house & keepers cottage but taking the ferry out & finding 64 acres of lush green island in the middle of the Atlantic was truly a surprise. The boat ride over was beautiful & the dingy launch to shore was fun. The carefully tended & marked paths gave easy hikes with great views of the Atlantic and the rocky Maine coastline. The tour of the lighthouse was very interesting & the views from the catwalk were incredible. All in all, a great Maine summer experience.

We visited many lighthouses while in Maine (touring the coast). This Lighthouse was one of many that we enjoyed seeing. We got some good pictures but did not actually go to the island.
