Eating Barbeque in New England can be a risky business. It's usually wise to turn away at the door of such places, However in Bath, Maine: It's the Best Idea!
Beale Street does it with simplicity and fun. Go for the pork spare ribs. A half portion should do the trick. The sides are all great, but as tradition has it are usualy heavy. So pick what you wish (I like the collards ad sweet potatoes), and order a salad to lighten the effect (there is a modest 'up charge' for substituting a salad). Mojitos with fresh mint, and a great array of local beers on tap. It does come out to about $30. per person. However compare it to a lobster dinner on this coast. If you order Lobster at a restaurant you always get burned. (Mainers just don't do it- they/we buy the lobsters and cook them up for 10% of the dining out prices).
But go to Beales's not to avoid the obster, but to take a break. You'll have both fun and a very good meal a Beale's.
