After loading our daughter out of her college room, my husband and I thought we would take a day or two farther up the coast of Maine, "just for us" around our birthdays. Belfast was a logical stopping point and we couldn't be happier. If we lived closer, the Alden House would be THE special treat destination weekend for us (I would also love a special girl friend weekend here!). It is lovely. The beds are soft and piled with pillows and the food is wonderful. Rose and Larry made us feel so welcome (we enjoyed exploring the house and sat in every comfy chair in both parlors and the library) and there were fresh flowers in our room for our birthdays. We had tea and rhubarb crumble when we arrived. We were steered to Darby's for dinner (where we had fiddlehead soup and fresh fried clams). After a blissful sleep we had poached eggs over vegetable hash with local ham, homemade bread and marmalade for breakfast. Great coffee.
My husband is not really a B&B guy, but he would come back here in a heartbeat.
