After loading our daughter out of her college room, my husband and I thought we would take a day or two farther up the coast of Maine, "just for us" around our birthdays. Belfast was a logical stopping point and we couldn't be happier. If we lived closer, the Alden House would be THE special treat destination weekend for us (I would also love a special girl friend weekend here!). It is lovely. The beds are soft and piled with pillows and the food is wonderful. Rose and Larry made us feel so welcome (we enjoyed exploring the house and sat in every comfy chair in both parlors and the library) and there were fresh flowers in our room for our birthdays. We had tea and rhubarb crumble when we arrived. We were steered to Darby's for dinner (where we had fiddlehead soup and fresh fried clams). After a blissful sleep we had poached eggs over vegetable hash with local ham, homemade bread and marmalade for breakfast. Great coffee.
My husband is not really a B&B guy, but he would come back here in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: They are all pretty and have their own charm. All are pretty much the same size. A couple share a ba...

I went to Maine on Business and stayed with Larry and Rose at the Alden House. I came from California where the weather was warm. I wasn't looking forward to being cold in Maine. I was so happy to arrive in the warm dinning room of the Alden house. Rose and Larry were wonderful, the space was beautiful, the food was fresh and they took care of all my strange dietary needs (vegan). I loved every minute of my stay. I hope to visit again soon.

A lovely home on a quiet residentioal stret in Belfast, we found Alden House to be all that we expected and more. Rosemarie and Larry were gracious hosts, our fellow guests ranged from a couple who had sailed up the coast and left their boat moored in the harbor to a couple from Panama...needless to say, we had most interesting conversations over excellent breakfast. Alden House is within easy walking distance of the harbor and downtown area with great bookstores, local interest shops and a variety of restaurants. Ask Rosemarie and Larry for suggestion. And the herb garden isn't too shabby either.

My wife and I came to Belfast to see if it is a place where we might like to move; and i think if we could move into the Alden House we would! A wonderful place to stay! Low-key, with warm and friendly innkeepers in a beautiful, walk-to-town location.

We arrived here having made a reservation for the wrong night. No problem! They graciously took us in and made us feel at home. We stayed in the Hiram Alden Room. It was spacious, comfortable and bright. The bedside tables had tall lamps with three levels of light, very adequate for reading. We were invited to use the common areas in the house: the library and a large sitting room. Breakfast was the best that we have had in two weeks of staying at bed and breakfasts and small inns: baked apple, perfect poached eggs over vegetable hash, smoked bacon and homemade toasted bread. We loved the city of Belfast. Great conversation at breakfast with hosts and other guests. This is why we stay at B&B's! So personable.

Previous reviews did not steer us wrong- Larry and Rose were excellent hosts- While not hovering, they provided very pleasant conversation on the history of the house, area, and their amazing breakfasts- Ideal location within easy walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants and the wharf- Easy access to US Rt. 1 for daytrips to Acadia and Monhegan Island- We stayed in the Hram Alden room, the largest in the house- Very spacious room w/ comfortable bed- Use of the fireplace would have been nice- Everything was very clean and a neat idea of soap/shampoo dispense attached to the shower- Two sinks was handy- Only (tiny) drawbacks were the small size of the shower and lack of closet space- We have stayed at many B&Bs and this is near the top of the list

Room Tip: We liked the Hiram Alden room but it was also the most expensive- Other rooms looked very nice as we...

This B&B was located about a 5 minute walk from Belfast center. Beautiful location and house, inside and out. We had the Annie Partridge room. It was small and included a bath but very comfortable. There was a room air conditioner which was useful as the sources of noise from the hallway and bathroom shared by other room could be hidden. The owners, Larry and Rose, were very gracious and accommodating to our needs. Breakfast was very good The internet was very difficult and the owners did not know what to do about it.

Room Tip: Perhaps not next to the shared bath? But the Annie Partridge was pretty good.
