For the last 19 years our ski club has stayed at the Sudbury Inn while skiing at Sunday River. The accommodations and care given by Inn Keeper Scott Davisand his outstanding staff could not be better for our group of 30 skiers. The Sudbury's dining room offers a fine selection of entrees in a casusl but charming atmosphere and the downstairs Sud's Pub is a lively apres' ski spot with good food and a great selection of draft beer.We look forward to our 20th year at the Sudbury next winer.

We always enjoyed the pub downstairs and thought the Inn might be a nice treat while skiing. Wrong. I splurged on a Valentine's day weekend in a "suite." The entire Inn is dingy and outdated inside (worn out "caution" tape stuck to the carpet, seriously?). The only thing that made our room a suite was the addition of two twin beds we didn't need. Old wallpaper, baseboard heat that was either cold or too hot, tiny sink, disgusting vinyl insert shower stall that couldn't maintain warm water for a minute. Why is there only a tiny shower stall in a suite anyway? As others have stated, parking is a real problem since pub-goers take all the spots and no spots are reserved for guests. In addition, we got some pretty rude service at the complimentary breakfast. I can't believe how much money I wasted. For less than half the price I could have stayed at Ruthie's down the street, which is friendly, clean and renovated.

I chose the Sudbury Inn based on the many positive reviews it received here. What a mistake. Our room was shabby, the heat didn't work, and the whole place is sadly in need of an upgrade. In spite of this, we figured we'd tough it out -- we had nowhere else to go. Then the band in the pub (2 stories down!) started to play. Holy cow!. It sounded like the music was right in our room. How they expect anyone to sleep in this place is beyond me. A big thumbs down.

This is our 3rd or fourth stay at the Sudbury. After a long journey from Arizona, I could not wait to sit down and relax. Once again, everything was excellent. I love clean, consistent service. Add a smile and I could not be happier. It was great to see the same familiar faces the inn owner, the staff in the dining room, and the bar folks downstairs. There was really nothing that could have been improved. The Sudbury is a great place if you want an inn feel without feeling like your walking in someones living room or front door.

We stayed at the Sudbury Inn last weekend, for two nights, because this inn is pet-friendly. Guests with pets stay in the carriage house, directly behind the inn. We had a very convenient ground floor suite, with two bedrooms (1 king, 1 double twin) that had a postage stamp sized kitchen, which met our needs just fine, as it had a fridge, sink and a coffee maker.
What we loved about the inn:
1) Location - in lovely downtown Bethel, with a view of the mountains, a main street that could be from 40 years ago, with a good assortment of choices for dining in the area, and wonderful places to go for long walks and short hikes.
2) The Food - The Suds Pub and fine dining room options right at the inn were also great! The generous breakfast, served in the dining room is included in the room rate - you can order your choice of items from the breakfast menu. This is much nicer than the average continental breakfast buffet typically offered in so many places.
I do not even have a "what we didn't like" list. The inn is old, and the main dining room is beautifully restored. The rooms in the carriage house are somehwat rustic, and decorated simply, which is great for us, because when traveling with dogs, fussy furnishings make me worry that a tail-wag could displace a decoration. It is like staying in a very old home, with some pipes exposed, and evidence of old leaks in the ceiling just like in every old home I have lived in! The staff were all very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive and respectful of guests' privacy. I love classic New England Country Inns, and the Sudbury Inn is a perfect example, and a great place to stay.

Great stay, rooms a little on the small side but then the inn is old. The staff were excellent, the hot breakfast also excellent. Plenty to do in the surrounding region and the room rates great value for money. Would definitely stay there again.
